Classic Shorts Showcase: The Tortoise and The Hare

Hello & welcome back to Classic Shorts Showcase.  Today, we will be taking a  look at the short, The Tortoise and The Hare. Now this story is well known and I do think that Disney did an okay job adapting it. With that out of the way, let's begin.

The Plot

The plot here is pretty basic,  it's the classic race between The Tortoise and The Hare.  This short shows two things that I really think work well. Showing our two characters and how different they are.  Max Hare, the rabbit is cocky and thinks he is the best and let's his ego get in the way. Whereas Toby Tortoise is a nice guy, that everyone laughs it off but he brushes it off and keeps going and wins whereas Max Hare loses because he stops too many times thinking he'll have time left to win but that isn't the case.  I think that with this shows that with the characters two different things. With Max Hare, it shows that it doesn't pay to be cocky and with Toby Tortoise, don't give up.

Characters

Toby Tortoise voiced by   Eddie Holden

I really liked Toby in this short as it showed that even though the world may be against you and think that you can't win,  you shouldn't give up and he didn't and he won by a neck.

Max Hare voiced by  Ned Norton

Max is a bit cocky and while he doesn't come as a bully, he comes across more as a jerk who thinks he's better and will win just because Toby is slow and he is fast but in the end, his ego did him in the end.  It was humorous to see him get so caught up in his own ego.  It just goes to show that because your good at something, doesn't mean,  you shouldn't underestimate your competitor.

My Final Thoughts

All in all, this is a very fun short that I highly suggest.  It teaches a great lesson for kids to never give up or to never underestimate your competitors in a race and even though Toby was laughed at, he didn't let it get to him.   Now we aren't done with Toby And Max yet. Join me next time when I take a look a the sequel to this short...
