All right, time for another Music Fridays and this has to be both the most nostalgic and cheesiest Music Fridays to date. today, we are taking a look at official music videos for songs from Disney movies. These are the covers where Disney got big name artists to sing the songs. Let's begin.
The Setlist
True To Your Heart - 98 Degrees featuring Stevie Wonder
This here video is for True to Your Heart from Mulan. It was sung by 98 Degrees featuring Stevie Wonder. Now at first, I found it hard to figure out how this video connected to Mulan. That is until you see the girl from the beginning who I assume is supposed to be the main character of this video enter the store in Little China. I will say that transitions from the music video to the movie footage could have been done a little better. However, they gave Stevie Wonder one heck of a cool entrance with the girl blowing that magic dust and then going to the clips of the spirits and then there is Stevie. That's awesome. No offense to 98 Degrees but they have nothing on Stevie Wonder, who I think is the real star of this video. All in all not a bad video but if they took out the movie scenes, I don't think I'd be able to tell that this was from Mulan. I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Very enjoyable though.
Can You Feel The Love Tonight? - Elton John
This video is just so beautiful. Elton did it right because he truly immersed himself into the film. Sure it's probably just a green screen effect but those shots of Elton John in the jungle are some of the best. Unlike the previous video the transitions from singer to movie aren't as jilted. Just having that little window in the video is another way it immerses you into the video. It's like oh okay we're leaving Elton and we're going to Pride Rock. The transition don't jump on you randomly, they are nicely placed and carefully thought out in this video. This has to be one of the best Disney music videos to date.
Little Wonders - Rob Thomas
First off let me start by saying that I think Meet the Robinsons is one of the most undeservedly underrated Disney films as it has such a beautiful story. Plus I love time travel. Anyways, the video at hand is great. While I think this video is great, I do have to admit that just as with the first video, most of its transitions from singer to film could have been better. Save for the baseball game where it starts out with the film and then all of the sudden we see Rob Thomas that was a great transition. Although I don't beleive its scenes are as oddly placed as True to Your Heart. Which I felt had a few oddly placed scenes and also I love the opening of this video with the rain and how it ends in brightness. It's almost as though, you are going on this journey with the main character, Lewis and you get to experince his emotions. This is another video that I just find beautifully done.
Colors of The wind - Vanessa Williams
Now normally, I'm not a big Vanessa Williams fan but something about this video makes me liker her version of this song. I love the opening and how it feels as though she is actually walking into the forest where Pocahontas lives. Out of all the videos that have been showcased I feel that this does the best job of repersenting the film the song comes from. I also really like the fact that transition from singer to movie actually flow nicely in this video and they don't have to perpare you for it. Yes yes, I know the Elton John video did that but it flowed nicely there. Unlike the other two videos though the transitions actually made sense and used the right movie scenes for this video. I really like the fact that after each movie scene we saw Vanessa still in the forest but in a different part. My only real complaint Vanessa's outfit is practial for being in the forest if your spending th night.
In the end, I like all of these videos. Some more than others but they did their job and each artist had a different take. That was nice to see and you could tell they were having fun. What's your favorite offical Disney music video? Was it showcased, if not tell me in the comments and feel free to include a link to said video. Come back next Friday for Stage Songs.
