To kick off KP Week, I have decided to talk about my thoughts on the proposed live action KP movie that floated around a few years back. Now these are just my thoughts and I hope that you enjoy what I have to say.
Currently, a script for a live action Phineas and Ferb film to hit theaters is being worked on. This is not the first time that a Disney Channel animated show had been considered to be turned into a live action film. Oh, no there were plans for a live action American Dragon: Jake Long film and what we are here to discuss today, a live action Kim Possible film. Seeing as I do not know the plot of the film or if they even got that far, I won't be focusing on that.
Now I'm sure a lot of you are thinking that this would have been a a bad idea and granted, I can agree with some of the past films that we have received based off of cartoons such as Scooby Doo or The Last Airbender. But here's the thing, if done right this could have worked.
For all intents and purposes, Kim Possible was an action comedy series and action films tend to do well in theaters. I think the best way to go about this would be explore KP's origins as she came
This was later explored and we were given more detail in the episode, Team Impossible. Where it was revealed that Kim's heroic career was started by accident as you may have noticed in that clip I used as the taller gentlemen meant to type in the web address for Team Impossible but instead ended up at KP's site.
Now true, this is treading old ground but not everyone will be as familiar with KP especially considering that the finale aired in 2007. (2007, wow!) And the show premiered back in 2002, (Again, wow I'm old). Now let's go back to the video and take a look at one of the lines said in that scene
She can do anything
Why is this so important? Well besides the fact that it sums Kim's personality. She is strong minded, self confident and very sure of herself. Now I'm going to avoid casting (for the most part) because I think I'd be terrible at it and I'd be afraid of it causing too much controversy. However, the actress that would play Kim would have to be able to convey this while still at the same time being able to pull off being an everyday teenage girl. She also needs to be a capable fighter and hold her own in combat. Now I said that for the most part that Kim is upbeat but she does have her moments where she feels she failed showcased nicely in So The Drama.
Now besides, Kim and Ron, there are other characters that should make an appearance such as the rest of the Possible family, Rufus, and Mr. Barkin.
Now I realize that I said I was going to avoid casting but with Barkin, the obvious choice to me would just to get his voice actor, Patrick Warburton to play him.
This is just my take on how to make a live action Kim Possible movie work. Now I bet you that'll never happen. Because as much as I hate saying this, the franchise is dead at least when it comes to the show. True it has found an extended life at Epcot with the World Showcase Adventure but these characters aren't as popular as they once were and that's ashame. Ah well but I do think if handled correctly, something like this could have been great. Join me next time when I take a look at the episode that introduces us to Shego's family and learn that she was once a member of a superhero team when I review the episode....
