Hello & welcome back to A Look at Disney and today, I continue my look at the new 2013 Mickey Mouse cartoon series by taking a look at the next short, Yodelberg. Here is a link to the short on Disney.com. And I gotta be honest, I didn't like this one. With that out of the way, let's begin.
The Plot
Okay, this is where my issue comes in. This short seemed as though there wasn't much to it. And that is a problem, I'm noticing because save for the last short I reviewed most of these shorts are starting to feel the same. This one like the first short in this new series was one where Mickey had to get from point A to point b and that was a little boring. What is the basic plot of this short? We open as we see Mickey and Minnie yodeling from atop two different mountain chalets and Mickey decides to make the trek across the snowy mountains to get to his love. But he has to deal with loud noises and find a quiet to them in fear of the avalanche. What do these entail? Well, two examples include men drinking and Mickey trying to stop of them from burping and actually containing the burp and moving it away. Or one where, Mickey was being chased by the Abominable Snowman and had to be quiet in fear of the avalanche. That's my issue right there with this short, yes these are different scenarios but for all intents and purposes, they are relying on the same gag and that can work, if you change it up but I don't feel that happened here. And to be frank, I didn't laugh once during this short.
Characters
Now there is no need to break this down any further then I already have. With that out of the way, let's begin.
Mickey Mouse
Mickey was okay in this short and he was the most interesting aspect of the short but the situations, that he was put in just came to feel repetitive after a while. And that dragged the short down a lot.
Minnie Mouse
Sadly, Minnie was less a character and more of a destination for Mickey to reach. We only saw her in the opening and closing of this short. Other the that, she was nowhere to be found. Shame, really!
My Final Thoughts
This in my opinion is thus far the weakest short to be released from the new batch. I'd say go ahead and skip this one as there isn't much there. Peace!
What, no mention that the Abominale Snowman is a reference to Disneyland's Matterhorn? For shame :P
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, it is the same joke repeated ad nasauem. Ultimately there's nothing about this that makes it a Mickey Mouse short since Mickey is a generic character in it. You could have put in another character and still had the same jokes. Hell you could put in Donald and made the whole thing funnier cos he had to keep quiet.
Oops, didn't think to include that one. Honestly, yeah if it were Donald that would made this short very entertaining but as it stands, this one is just bleh.
