Remake Month: 102 Dalmatians

The 101 Dalmatians remake was so successful that it led to an animated series loosely inspired by the movie

And what we are looking at today,  the film's sequel. Much like the Homeward Bound II review, I will be not giving a plot breakdown here but instead breaking down the core themes of the movie.

The Plot

A big theme of this sequel is the idea of this film is change and that is even heard in the new version of the Cruella De Ville song heard in this movie.

Which is interesting to consider at first as it seems as though this movie is going for a redemption angle with Cruella as for a good portion of the movie is cured, however, she reverts back to her old ways, when she hears the loud sounds of Big Ben and we admittedly do get this cool shot.

And that is even seen with the gentlemen that runs the pet shelter that Cruella volunteers at as he has a criminal record that Cruella uses against him once she reverts back to being a villain.

Sorry for not using the names but the characters are honestly so forgettable aside from Cruella and the new main dog, a cutie named Oddball but I believe his name was Kevin.  Oh and one of the new villains is this guy that was inspired by Cruella. He looks like a WWE wrestler.

Now as I was saying,  the new main puppy in this movie is Oddball and her main goal in this movie is trying to get her spots.  This is cute but all but unrealistic from what I've read as puppies usually do get spots eventually.

Once again the movie uses the tactic of zany comedy akin to Home Alone like the first movie with the dogs but it doesn't ring as true here. It felt like the movie was trying to top up the first movie but it didn't work as well. Like here.

It's fun but I dunno.

My Final Thoughts

I don't think this is a bad movie but it felt too hard to recapture the magic of the first one with jokes that aren't as good. It's enjoyable but one that you need to back to.  Join me next time as we dive into Disney+ for the first time as I look at the remake of...

Lady and the Tramp
