Top 6 Disney Moms

Mother's Day is fast approaching and Disney has had many great mothers appear throughout the years that it's almost hard to narrow it down to just 6 but I've done it.  I have thankfully been able to compile a list of my Top 6 Disney Moms.  If your reading this, though you should be able to figure out who my # 1  is from past articles.   Anyways with that out of the way, let's begin.

6.  Kanga -  Winnie The Pooh

Kanga is one of the few main female characters in The Hundred Acre Wood but she is rather sweet and very caring.  While she may be Roo's mamma,  I think in a way she is the mother to all of The Hundred Acre Wood as she cares for each of them like they are her own and only wants the best for them.    She is perhaps one of the most warmhearted characters and this comes through in all of her appearances.   I once again turn to perhaps my favorite Pooh film, The Tigger Movie. There is a scene in her and Roo's house where Roo states that he's worried about Tigger and as a good mom, she just tires to reassure Roo that he'll be okay.  It is one of the sweetest moments in the film.

5. Mrs. Banks - Mary Poppins

Now even though I stated in my review that I feel  this character is the least important of the important characters, I still feel that she is a good mother that tries her best to take care of her children. It is true that she is neglectful of  the children but she does try her best to be a good  mother and through the aid of Mary Poppins,  she does indirectly become a better mother and I know that I've said this before but I think the play expands upon her character greatly and makes her a much more important character.  Also  it helps that she has one of my favorite songs.

4.   Mrs. Potts - Beauty and The Beast

When it comes to classic Disney mothers,   Mrs. Potts is perhaps one of the most famous and for good reason, she's a great mother.   I think what makes this character work the best though is Angela Lansbury's excellent voice work as she gives Mrs. Potts the right amount of loving and also being stern.   You know what I said about Kanga can also apply to Mrs. Potts to a certain degree in that she can be viewed as the mother of the castle especially when it comes to Beast and how she puts up with his antics.   I would also say that she is very motherly towards Belle but of course her main focus as a mother is taking care of Chip and he may not always want to listen to her but he does abide by her rules and I have to say that they some of the cutest scenes in the movie.   Such as when Mrs. Potts is ordering Chip off to bed.

3.  Ms. Davis - The Toy Story Trilogy

Here we have a unique case as this is the only mom on the list to appear in more than one film and over the course of the three Toy Story films, we get to see her relationship develop more with Andy as he grows up.   Now like most of the mothers on this list save for Mrs. Banks,  Ms. Davis is a single mother but it's never stated what happened to her husband and Pixar has said that will not say and I like this as it allows the focus to remain on the of her relationship with her children which is where I feel focus with this character should be.

2.  Kala - Tarzan

In many ways, Kala is  perhaps the character with the biggest heart in Tarzan.   As we see at the beginning of the film, she takes Tarzan in and even though he's different, she treats him as her own and over time he does become her son.  I mean there is no question that Kala and Tarzan are mother and son.  Just look at the relationship they have and I think the best scene for this is when Tarzan tries to cover himself in mud to look more ape like and Kala.  just tells Tarzan that she'll love him no matter what and this of course leads into one of my favorite songs from the film that perfectly sums their relationship.

1.  Mrs. Jumbo - Dumbo

Now  I'm sure most of you saw this one coming but in my opinion,  Mrs. Jumbo is one of the sweetest Disney moms.   She cares for Dumbo and will like a good mother to anything to protect him as seen when she protects him from the bully  that is making fun of Dumbo.  It does end up to them being torn apart but in the end,  they do reunite and also Baby Mine is one of the sweetest moments as again it shows the love she has for her son.   It just culminates to bring a beautiful moment.

To end this event, here is a great Disney Moms AMV
