Ah, A Christmas Carol. One of the greatest stories for this time of year and Disney has tackled this story three times now and each time, Music was involved. Whether it be with Mickey, Muppets, or Jim Carrey, the story has delivered and today, I will look at the music from these adaptions.
Oh, a What Merry Christmas Day
Now I talked about this song last year but I really like it and I consider it one of my favorite Christmas songs. It's just so cheerful and happy. It warms the heart and puts you in a happy state. You can't be upset while listening to this song.
Okay, next up is Muppet Christmas Carol. I'll be looking at 4 songs from this film. One of which I've covered but to want to talk about again because its's that good. Trust me, it was narrowing down what songs to look at from this film.
Scrooge
This song is just awesome! It shows how much the town hates Scrooge and why, he's a cold-hearted monster with no redeeming qualities to him. This is the type of song, I would categorize as a Cruella song. Man, haven't used that phrase in a while but that means is we have other character tell us how they feel about a character through song. Typically, it's about a villain and you can make the argument that Scrooge starts off the film in a villainous manner and you'd be right.
Marley and Marley
Statler and Waldorf are just creepy as the Marley's and this song shows why. They bring their personalities of being grumpy old men to the Marley's and it works wonderfully. I just love how this song has a ghost like sound to it that can send chills up one's back.
When Love Is Gone
There was no way that I was not going to cover this song this Christmas because if I'm going to talk about The Muppet Christmas Carol, I have got to talk about this song. It's my favorite song from this film. It's just so somber and you can see how much Scrooge loved Belle and still loves Belle, he was hurt by her leaving him. It does so much for his character.
It Feels Like Christmas
I gotta be honest, it was between this or When Love Is Gone to take the third spot and while I like When Love is Gone more, this is more of a Christmas song. This song is just so joyous and happy. Again, it's another one that can warm the heart. You can see how joyful The Ghost of Christmas Present is in this song. It's just a good old happy Christmas song.
God Bless Us Everyone
This song is brought to us by Andrea Bocelli and my gosh, does his voice bring so much power to this song. A great song to cap off a good film. I feel that it sums the message of this tale quite well. Just be kind to your fellow man. It's not that hard and wow, I could listen to this song all day long. It's that gorgeous.
I hope you have enjoyed my look at the music of these three takes on A Christmas Carol. Join me next week for The Voices of Liberty Christmas
