THE ENCOUNTER

#10 CHERNABOG from Fantasia 

Jack: Now I know his placement on here may seem a little odd seeing as people view him as the embodiment of all evil and should be # 1 or a literal approach that he doesn’t do anything and isn’t remotely complex so he should be at the very last slot or shouldn’t be on the list. But I can agree with both arguments so I put him smack dab in the middle. Chernabog is indeed really powerful and is definitely an intimidating figure (after all he is Satan), but yes he isn’t very complex. Still he’s the Devil he doesn’t need to be his combat power is exploited very well in Kingdom Hearts, he does badass things and they can be symbolically cruel as the Nostalgia Critic pointed out, but we tend to like a little more complexity and/ or personality to our villains. Which is why he’s not higher and he’s also not higher because he has been shown to be a servant of my #1 pick. Still he is an amazing villain with an excellent design, powers, obvious badassery being the Devil and all, excellent musical accompaniment, and presence. 

#9 SCAR from the Lion King

Jack: Scar is one of the most selfish and evil villains because he won’t even let his own flesh and blood stop him. He kills his own brother and attempts to kill his own nephew to claim the throne of Pride Rock. There have been some books that actually give a backstory and a sympathetic villain, but let’s go by the film. He is an arrogant and selfish lion that was denied the throne and has been resentful ever since. He manipulates a group of outcast hyenas and uses them as part of his coup. He kills Mufasa and drives Simba away and believes him to be dead.  The ironic thing about Scar is that he views power in a similar way Simba viewed power which was an immature, irresponsible and childlike view of power. There were times where Scar was realizing that he wasn’t worthy, but is too arrogant to admit it and refuses to take responsibility and make the necessary sacrifices that a king must make.  His hubris results in his doom when he denies responsibility and blames the hyenas for everything and they don’t like that very much. Being a powerful statement on the irresponsible view of power Scar is perfect for the #9 spot on this list. 

#8 LARXENE from the Kingdom Hearts series 

Jack: I bet you guys were wondering when I would get to Kingdom Hearts villains. Even though these villains are the youngest villains on the list in terms of how long they’ve been around they have truly established themselves as the best of the Disney Villains! Let’s start with Larxene. She is the 12^th Member of Organization XIII known as “The Savage Nymph.” She is one of the most cruel, evil, barbaric, sadistic, and sociopathic villains in the entire series. She may not be one of my favorites, but I can’t deny that she has to be on this list. Always playful and flirtatious and giggling at any opportunity to harm someone whether it is physically, psychologically, or emotionally. Even though she doesn’t have a heart to actually feel that joy she takes the largest amount of pseudo pleasure in these actions.  It has been written that when she had a heart life wasn’t kind to her and the character has stated in one of the game’s Secret Reports that she hated and resented having a heart and only joined the Organization for bigger and better things.  The “bigger and better things” was treachery and take over of the Organization along with her close companion Marluxia. When another member named Axel ruined their plans by setting events in motion that would reveal the scheme to Sora, Donald and Goofy Larxene was killed by Sora, Donald and Goofy. That wasn’t an easy task because Larxene is extremely powerful. She has ninja type knives and can control the element of Lightning. With such light weapons she is extremely fast and agile and can even use super ninjistu type moves to defeat her foes. She can duplicate herself, make illusions etc. She can cast lighting bolts in close and wide range as well as shooting huge streams of lightning bolts from her arms. In Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories she was one of the more difficult bosses during her second fight. A vile creature of a woman and powerful to boot and that makes her an excellent villain more than worthy of this list. 

Darkfan21: Now, my dear boy. This is much better but I must disagree with you that Chernabog is the devil. It is true he may look like the devil but the real devil resides in the evil known as My Little Pony. My God, the horror. That is the most evil thing ever and really, Scar seems to be a bit of a diva. Just like myself, I suppose but I feel I pull off the evil diva much better than he could.

Jack: Really? Did you seriously bring My Little Pony into this? Out of all the evil things going on and the previous entries on this list that show is the representation of the Devil? I honestly thought you would say Dumbo’s Circus, but whatever. 

#7 EVIL MANTA from Little Mermaid TAS

Jack: This is going to be the big upset of the list. Ursula will not be featured on this list. No Darkfan’s sexism didn’t rub off on me. I love Ursula! She’s an amazing villain and one of the best, but as I said before in my list of the Top 13 Best Little Mermaid TAS episodes that I believed Evil Manta was Ariel’s archnemesis. As I said in that list he took advantage of Ariel’s kindness (as opposed to taking advantage of Ariel’s anger) and destroyed her spirit and proceeded to destroy everything and everyone she has ever loved all because he could and that’s what he does. He turns Ariel’s friends and neighbors against one another and her. He’s the embodiment of pure evil in the Atlantican universe he’s cruel, sadistic when it comes to psychological and emotional pain and can be physically powerful when he needs to be. He’s also extremely arrogant by having his son be a mere copy of him and carry on his evil legacy and not walk (or swim) his own path. Selfish, arrogant, pure evil, sadistic and driven to protect his evil legacy that he takes the gloves off and attempts to kill his enemy (Ariel) and end this once and for all. An excellent villain! 

#6 SAÏX from the Kingdom Hearts series

Jack: Yeah another Kingdom Hearts villain.Organization XIII #7 The Luna Diviner. Unlike Larxene who relished in causing pain and suffering Saïx is far more reserved. He has a coldness similar to that of the Evil Queen never really smiling aside from a foreboding sneer that means you fell for his trap or you’re in for a beating. He is also interesting because he’s the right hand man to the Organization’s leader and is completely devoted to the leader and the Organization as a whole. Doing most of the leadership type things and interaction with the members. His main goal within the Organization is to regain the heart he lost even if that heart is much darker than he remembered.  The more he gets involved with Organization matters the more cold and distant he becomes especially to his friend Axel (they were friends when they were human) and treats others merely as tools and not caring about anyone or anything. Axel had to come to terms that his friend was gone and that is what makes Saïx semi tragic. Someone who was a decent person who fell deeper and deeper into darkness and pushed away the one friend that was still around. He is ensnared by the Dark and continued to be and was killed after the battle with Sora, Donald and Goofy. 

Darkfan21: My dear foolish obsessed Mermaid friend, I must say that your list is truly null & void at this point. How could you include a loser that was defeated by the power of a song? How pathetic and unoriginal! He might as well have been defeated with a Care Bear stare. Hell, that seems more powerful. Such a poor choice. This further proves you know very little about villainy.

Jack: Weren't you defeated by the power of a song too? I believe it went something like this.

At least Manta has a pet that can eat brains what do you have Darkfan? And besides don't the Care Bears have that Rainbow Ray "Taste the Rainbow Motherfucker!" (copyright of Doug Walker and Channel Awesome)

Darkfan21: NEVER PLAY THAT AROUND ME AGAIN!!!! I may have to bump you up to the number 2 spot on my list now. Shame too, I was actually looking forward to offing Fusinonter, next. Maybe, I'll go after Les and Jason after I'm done with you. They should be easy targets.

Jack: If you hurt them Darkfan I will kill you! But seeing as you're tied up that will be very unlikely. Now sit tight we're almost done here and I have the perfect punishment and sentence in store for you.

#5 FROLLO from Hunchback of Notre Dame 

Oh come on Frollo has to be on here! His xenophobic hatred for the Gypsies that results in the death of Quasimodo’s parents and evolves to complete genocide along with lusting after Esmeralda, burning Paris to the ground and attempting to murder innocent non gypsy families etc. I could go on and on. What makes Frollo a really effective villain is that he thinks he’s the good guy. He sees himself as a good man that he is justified in his actions. Halfway through he finds himself greatly conflicted between his hatred for Gypsies and his lust for Esmeralda and instead of thinking it’s a natural human emotion he’s feeling his hubris and arrogance doesn’t allow him to see it and he blames Esmeralda for this and this is when his obsession becomes more destructive than it already is. His obsession, hatred and insanity reaches a boiling point when he attacks Notre Dame and his malice is fully unleashed. His last words being “And He shall smite the Wicked and plunge them into the Fiery Pit!” is precisely the way to put it. I couldn’t have said it better myself and his eternal damnation is sealed when he falls from a collapsed gargoyle and into the molten metal below. A great, complex villain for an excellent film! 

#4 DEMONA from Gargoyles

Demona is an awesome villain from an awesome show! As far as analysis goes she is very similar to Frollo in a lot of ways. She has a genocidal hatred for humans (instead of Gypsies), thinks she’s doing Gargoyle kind a service, obsessive with her hatred, and never takes responsibility for her mistakes and never thinks she’s wrong. What makes her slightly more interesting and engaging than Frollo is that for all we know Frollo was born a racist jerk with Demona you see that hatred develop over time in the opening story arc and in flashbacks throughout the series. At first she’s just bitter that Gargoyles aren’t seen as equals and are treated poorly by humans she’s not evil. One day she can’t take it anymore and she decides to teach the humans a lesson by conspiring with the castle’s captain to have the Vikings sack the castle during the day (Gargoyles can’t come to life and protect the castle during the day only at night is it possible) and the Gargoyles would go somewhere else for the day to sleep. She tried to convince her lover Goliath (the clan’s leader) to lead everyone away, but he along with another Gargoyle were the only ones to leave to track an enemy group. The Vikings attack and smash the sleeping Gargoyles left behind at the castle. Demona doesn’t blame herself for her terrible mistake she blames Goliath for not following through and she blames the humans. The show constantly shows her coming up with other genocide schemes and such and it really shows what hatred does to someone. It makes them severely unhappy and alone and is such a pitiful existence and the tragic thing is Demona’s hatred  has consumed her and she refuses to see what she’s done to herself. 

#3 XALDIN from the Kingdom Hearts series

I know I had Gaston earlier on the list and I want to make one thing clear I love Gaston as a villain. He is absolutely perfect for the film of Beauty and the Beast. But Gaston isn’t exactly Kingdom Hearts material. So in Kingdom Hearts 2 Xaldin Organization XIII #3 The Whirlwind Lancer takes Gaston’s place as the enemy of Beast’s Castle. In this game and in the companion game 358/2 Days he establishes himself as Beast and Belle’s archnemesis! Unlike Gaston who was a vain pretty boy who wanted to kill Beast to kill a romantic rival Xaldin wants to utterly destroy Beast! He exploits Beast’s anger, pain and fears and uses it to turn Beast more angry and bitter than he was and had Beast turn on his servants. His plan is to plunge Beast into despair and turn him into a Heartless and claim his inevitable extremely powerful Nobody. But Sora, Donald and Goofy arrive and foil his first plan. Then he comes back and isn’t playing around anymore he takes the Beast’s Rose and kidnaps Belle and forces Beast to choose his humanity or the woman he loves. Xaldin not having a heart and not understanding that Belle is the one that made Beast feel and act like a human Beast chooses Belle and an epic battle ensues and Sora, Beast, Donald and Goofy kill Xaldin. It’s great stuff and is one of the best stories of the individual Disney worlds in the KH series. In 358 we get a lot more of a backstory on Xaldin’s plan and how Xaldin first arrived in Beast’s Castle and was amazed at the history and story of the residents and how he could plunge them into despair. He often went there by himself outside of missions to observe and evaluate weaknesses of Beast and Belle and the things he says about Beast and Belle’s relationship is enough to fully cement him as Beast and Belle’s archnemesis. In the Secret Reports he states his opinions of emotions and the heart and him outright insulting the Beast for his efforts to become a better person. He can also fight! He is one of the more powerful members of the Organization and controls the element of wind with his 6 lances. He is one of the most difficult bosses in Kingdom Hearts 2 (which is kind of not saying too much, but that’s for another time) with his ability to block virtually any assault from any direction. He’s one Kingdom Hearts’s best villains and the archnemesis of a classic Disney couple! 

Darkfan21: Interesting choices. I've realized something while doing this list with you. I cannot defeat you so long as you have that keyblade. Knowing you, I'll never be able to take out of your hands but that does not mean that I can't find a way around it. Perhaps, you left a spare lying around here that you've forgotten about.

Jack: Now you’re finally beginning to understand your situation Darkfan. It will make your sentencing a lot easier and more sobering. This maturity is 1 step closer to truly turning your life around. 

#2 MALEFICENT from Sleeping Beauty 

I’m sure many of you were counting down the list dying of anticipation wondering when the Mistress of All Evil would take her rightful place on this list. Well for me it’s here at number 2! Why I’ll leave that for my #1, but Maleficent is a FANTASTIC, INCREDIBLE, BADASS, POWERFUL, INTIMIDATING, AND INCREDIBLY EVIL AND AMAZING VILLAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!  What people love about her is the fact that she is the embodiment of pure evil. She’s not complicated she is straight up evil and cruel. What bothers me more than anything regarding this character is when people criticize her for having a weak motivation! She does NOT have a weak motivation it’s just a simple one. Maleficent did NOT curse Aurora because she wasn’t invited to her birth celebration!! No, not it at all!!!!!!!!!! Pay attention to the scene when she speaks for the first time in the movie and she’s talking about the various people and everything she’s being sarcastic. When Merrywhether  says Maleficent wasn’t wanted Maleficent knows damn well she wasn’t wanted. She is pure evil and wanted to crush and destroy Aurora’s family’s celebration of life and birth and fill it with sorrow, dread, fear and death by cursing Aurora! She did it because she could! That is brilliant! It really cements that legendary status of evil, cruelty and barbarism that lands you in the villain history books. She is also extremely powerful with her magic with command over green fire and lightning. With her magic as well as her intelligence and sophistication you get an extremely intimidating foe along with DRAGON TRANSFORMATION!!! She can be suave and calm and be maniacal and angry the next creating an excellent diversity to her personality. Another excellent touch is Eleanor Audley’s great performance and everytime she speaks it’s with an echo and with a great design to boot you have a villain that demands presence and she steals every single solitary scene she’s in. No wonder Disney has used this villain so much (still not looking forward to the Angelina Jolie movie) especially as the leader of the Disney villains in Kingdom Hearts. 

Darkfan21: *Yawn* Overrated witch that can turn into a dragon and upset because she wasn't invited to a birthday party. What a lame villain? Even if she were a male, I'd still think she was lame. I've never understood fans. She is perhaps the lamest and most overrated Disney villain of all time.

Jack: Did you not pay attention to my analysis?????!!!!!!!!!! You are a moron and by the way do you honestly think you can do better???? Mr. I'm tied up and got defeated within a couple of seconds. Let me tell you something it took me a straight month tokill  Dragon maleficent in Kingdom Hearts 1 if she were here to listen to you say that how long do you think you'll last????!!!!!!! You show some respect to the Mistress of All Evil's abilities in fact it should be like with the Evil Queen you must respect her on a level!

#1 XEHANORT AND ALL OF HIS INCARNATIONS from the Kingdom Hearts Series

There is no doubt about it Xehanort, the main villain of the entire Kingdom Hearts Saga has to be the #1 Disney villain! I could seriously write an entire article on this guy and why he’s incredible! Where do I begin? Okay let’s start off with his goal. His goal is to find the source of all light and darkness within the godlike force that is Kingdom Hearts. Kingdom Hearts contains pretty much all the power and knowledge one needs to be a God and even contains knowledge that wasn’t meant to be found through force, but through life experiences. Xehanort like all Disney characters is a dreamer. He dreams of finding the answers to the universe and is obsessed with it throwing everything away in the process. He throws away compassion, honor, morality, his duty as a Keyblade Master and defender of the Light, his friend and brother in arms Master Eraqus, his humanity and his very heart. His Seeker’s Path has led him to immense and destructive power of Darkness more powerful than any Darkness ever witnessed in the Kingdom Hearts universe. 

He is a master manipulator and tactician. Forming plans and always has a back up and is very patient giving years for his backup plan to develop so he can make sure the back up plan works. He manipulates not only the heroes, but other people on this list. He started Maleficent on her evil crusade of conquest and that is how the Disney villains formed their group as well as his Xemnas persona being the leader of Organization XIII. He sees people only as tools and a means to an end, according to Sora “You treat people’s hearts like their bottles on a shelf”!  In other words he manipulates manipulators.

After crushing a previous generation of Keyblade Masters he becomes a Mad scientist performing cruel, torturous, and inhumane experiments on innocent people turning them into Heartless and gaining even further knowledge of the Heart and the Darkness within it. He believes that Darkness is the key power to the goal he seeks and that the light is an inconvenience and that negativity being the primary emotional ingredient in Darkness is much more suitable such as anger and hate for example. His experiments set him on a path of destruction with Maleficent and her villains on one end destroying world after world he was doing the same under the name Ansem: The Seeker of Darkness. He now wears the villain hats of nihilist, messiah complex, and genocidal megalomaniac. At this point he possesses Sora’s best friend Riku and uses him as a new vessel. Sora sets everything right of course and Ansem’s arrogance gets the better of him when he is proven wrong that Kingdom Hearts’s fundamental element is Light! 

There are other plots and examples of cruelty, but those will be major spoilers and I don’t have time so I’ll talk about the obligatory Darkness themed monologues that Xehanort (or an incarnation of him) always delivers multiple times in each installment of the game. These monologues are NEVER the stereotypical “I want to take over the world” monologues, but something much much more. These monologues are fascinating! They’re intelligently written with intriguing philosophies (cynical and pessimistic, but true) about the “Heart’s Folly”(the nature of the heart blinding people to the truth) and nature of existence when Nobodies are discussed, Darkness being the “Heart’s True Essence”, The Links between Memory and the Heart, The concept of the lack of emotion and hearts  in a Data World (referring to TRON and the GRID). These monologues make you think and contemplate things you never thought you would contemplate in a Disney adventure. Most of these monologues are simply the truth. This is what makes Xehanort MORE interesting than he already is. He manipulates heroes with the TRUTH. Yes, Xehanort does lie and stretch the truth sometimes, but not very often. Most of what he says is true, but it’s how the heroes respond and emulate that truth that is completely different! Sora shrugs it off and says that maybe it is true, but it doesn’t excuse Xehanort’s actions and that Sora’s heart will eventually lead him to the truth. A very optimistic and ideological approach. Riku does something completely different. Riku listens, takes it all in and eventually (I mean in Reverse/ Rebirth, KH2, and 3D) sees how it can be used for good. He takes the truth and applies it to the light and uses it to protect what matters (especially in 3D). These monologues are incredible they show that this character is more than just a nutjob that wants world domination, but a human being (a heartless human being, but what ever) with an actual opinion of the world and people around him. 

 

He’s not all about just ideas he is also an extreme fighter keeping gamers entertained for a decade as the Final Boss of the series entries. When he has a Keyblade he has strong heavy hitting Keyblade strikes and in his youth he has time based powers added in. In his Ansem: The Seeker of Darkness form he has a Demonic Guardian that emanates from his shadow and can use all manner of Dark magic and attacks. In his Xemnas persona he has 2 “Ethereal Blades” that are basically red lightsabers and he controls the power of Nothingness. His blade strikes are quick and swift with great agility as well as damaging force fields.  By the way did I also mention that Chernabog was the guardian of his inner chamber in Kingdom Hearts 1? That’s right Satan is his servant! Another reason why he’s #1! He also has EPIC musical accompaniment.

With all of that Xehanort has made his place in history as the GREATEST DISNEY VILLAIN OF ALL TIME! Simply because in every possible way he is the ANTI-DISNEY! No one has topped him and I truly believe no one ever will. No one has ever tormented the Disney universe this long and this mercilessly. He is a sadistic mad scientist, nihilist, arrogant megalomaniac, committed genocide and killed off many of your favorite Disney characters before KH 1, an extreme epic fighter, manipulator of manipulators, master tactician, manipulates the heroes with the TRUTH, fascinating and insightful philosophies used for evil, complete lack of any positive emotion, Chernabog has been his servant, Seeker of Darkness  and blinded by ambition. The most fascinating thing of all though, is that his roots are that of a Disney leading character. All the Disney characters we know and love are dreamers. Any one of those characters, Ariel, Belle, Cinderella, Aladdin, Beast, Pinocchio, Quasimodo, Dumbo even, they could all become just like Xehanort! What sets them apart though and makes them different from him is that they have friends and a journey that puts them to the test and makes them emotionally worthy of their dreams as well as their inherent kindness and knowing their ethical limitations. So there you have it! The ANTI-DISNEY himself Xehanort and all of his incarnations as the GREATEST DISNEY VILLAIN OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!

Darkfan21: That was just a silly little Kingdom Hearts fanboy choice. Tell me, could you have done this list without including any of those characters? I thought not. Ah, your list is done, I sat here patiently. I lived up to my end of the deal you can free me now and I'll just be on my way. This was fun. Though I think Fusionater was the better fighter. You did nothing then tie me up. Weak, he actually tricked me when I was trying to trick him. You have to be the weakest person I've faced. You tie me up instead of actually wanting to face off against me. What is it? Your afraid you'll lose. Your afraid that I'm better than you. Your afraid that you might fail and I'll succeed. All of my plans before may have silly but not now. I can take you down even in this chair. Untie me and prove to me that your not afraid of facing me like a man. Then you'll at least have a grain of respect from me. Not that much but still. This list was not bad but really that was just a distraction. You thought you could stop me. You dear boy only delayed me because I will find a way to get that keyblade and use it to take over... no, forget about taking over the world. I'll let the world live but my goal has always been to get rid of Moviefan12 and the best way to do that is to destroy the thing he loves. That's right with your key, I'll destroy Disney World and there's nothing you can do to stop me. You talk a big game but your WEAK!!! You don't even try to hide it, I can see the fear in you. It's building. You’re just a fearful little boy that uses word to hide behind.

Jack: ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's one thing you conspire to hurt my friends and innocent people and another when the likes of you has the nerve to insult my honor as a man and as a Keyblade Master!!!!!!!!!!! Very well I'll grant your request. I' ll untie you and you will face me in a battle!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's see if you have the guts as well as the abilities to back up your words!!!!! Prove to me and the world that you can stand in good company with the characters on that list!
(summons impenetrable barriers around battlefield) 
And to make sure you don't chicken out that barrier is for insurance! 
LET'S GO DARKFAN21!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Darkfan21 (goes to punch): Excellent! MY dear boy, your on edge and unsteady. I've gotten to you. You have such a disadvantage in this fight and you don't even think you do. You think just because you have that key, you'll take me out. Well, why don't you fight me like a man and put that thing aside? But you can't because it protects you and what are you without protection. A weak little boy trying to take on someone that he knows he can't win against.

Jack: Very well. I don't want to waste my blade's time and effort on someone like you. Do you honestly think I survived this long by being a master of just swordsmanship and not martial arts?. Also who says I'm on edge? I'm angry sure, but not that angry. Just enough to give me a little bit more strength. The real power comes from something that you can't understand. Something that you won't allow yourself to understand. You fight for yourself Darkfan I fight for others!!! To quote the heroes of Kingdom Hearts: "My Friends are my power!!!!!!!!!" Now no more talking if you have something to say you say it with your fists!!!!!!!! (dashes at tremendous speed and delivers a 3 punch and 1 kick combo to Darkfan's torso and head!)

Darkfan21: My God, can you not go one minute without talking about that game? (Kicks DisneyOtoko in the stomach)

Jack: That's it I'm ending this now!!!!!!! (Stops attacking and feels power coursing through his body. Images of all things Disney, his friends at home, his friends abroad, his family and his friends online) Fist charges with powerful mystical energy and his heartemanates with the glow that is brightest) (he goes so fast that the human eye doesn't register it and knocks Darkfan square in the jaw and is completely knocked out in severe pain before he even hits the ground)

Darkfan21: (laying in pain) You've won. I don't know where that power came from but you defeated me. I'll just be going now but do know that I'll return to complete my attack. Maybe not against you. Maybe against one of your friends but I shall return and I'll have my revenge.

Jack: Not so fast (summons Keyblade and extends chains that tie Darkfan up again)! The only reason you're still alive Darkfan is because I allowed it. Moviefan created you it's his responsibility to kill you. I love the guy, but he's too nice for his own good. Why he lets you live is beyond me. We all know he'd let you go. So that's why I came up with this.

(opens corridor of darkness) Darkfan, for multiple crimes against humanity, the internet, assault, attempted murder and other crimes too numerous to mention I with the power given to me by the Keyblade I sentence you to eternal exile in the Realm of Darkness!!!!!!
