Hello & welcome back to A Look at Disney. Girl Meets World has been airing on Disney Channel for some time now and there is something I need to address. Shawn will be guest starring in a future episode of Girl Meets World and Rider Strong will be directing a few episodes. However, I have seen something amongst some BMW fans say that they want something done with Shawn's character that would totally derail his character in my opinion. And this Tweet didn't help much either.
This Friday, the episode of Girl Meets World is introducing the character of Maya's mom. Maya is the best friend of Riley Matthews, Cory and Topanga's daughter. And from the promo, I'm a bit nervous as Maya's mom appears to be a female Chet Hunter. What is that some BMW fans want to see with Shawn, they want him to be Maya's dad. And I'm sorry but....
Look, this has already been confirmed that this isn't happening but even still, it wouldn't be a good idea because not every character on Girl Meets World needs to be related to a character from Boy Meets World. Riley, makes sense because she is the main character and this is a show about the daughter of Cory and Topanga. And then we have Farkle (yes, that's his name), who is the son of Minkus.
I can accept that but having Riley's best friend be the daughter of Shawn would be a stretch. And also, it wouldn't make sense because none of the characters from Boy Meets World have been mentioned by name in this show as of yet. But more importantly, here's the big reason why I wouldn't want this. From what we know about Maya's life, she has a bit of a troubled home life. Her mom is never home to help her. Her dad walked out on her and her mom and has remarried and has a new family. Would you really want Shawn Hunter to be someone that walked out on his kid? If Shawn were Maya's father, that would put him in a negative light and dim peoples' view of Shawn. Sure, Shawn may have had some troubles and go on some journeys where he needed to be away from people that was after his dad passed away.
But he always came back when his friends needed him in their time of need. Take for example, when Joshua was having troubles after being born.
Shawn Hunter is not the type of person that would walk out on his daughter, if things got tough. He would try to work through them. Instead of making him the father, you know what would make more sense for his character. Give him a relationship similar to that of the Mr. Turner/Shawn relationship with Maya.
I'm not saying that make it exactly like the Turner and Shawn relationship because that would be too on the nose but take from that and have Shawn be there for Maya because he can understand what she is going through, more than probably Cory can. And Shawn like Mr. Turner can be their as support for Maya and be a stand in father figure like Mr. Turner was And let's be honest, Mr. Turner was more of a father to Shawn than Chet.
To me, a relationship like that would make so much more sense than making him Maya's father and I cannot fathom why BMW fans would want to turn one of the most beloved BMW characters into a jerk with what we know of Maya's dad. Because again, Shawn Hunter would NOT walk out on his loved ones.
At the end of the day, this isn't happening but I can't believe Boy Meets World fans would want this because it would turn Shawn into a character that people would hate. And I wouldn't want that to happen to Shawn because he's one of the best characters from the original show. What are your thoughts on this? Let me know in the comments. Peace!
What about the possibility that Shawn never knew about Maya? In the Holiday episode Shawn said he left NYC after Riley was born...It's possible he had a child on the way too but didn't know.
ReplyDeleteWhile that is a possiblity, I still don't think that is the case if you off the conservation that Shawn and Maya had.
