Can We Talk about the Star Wars Cars Characters

Hello & welcome back to A Look at Disney. Star Wars, one of the greatest film series of all time. Cars, a film that I personally love but can admit that it is being used as a cash cow but then again, you could say the same thing about Disney. Why do I bring this up? Well, you see, recently the new merchandise for this year's Star Wars Weekend and one of the new things is a line of Cars characters as Star Wars characters. Now this is nothing new as Disney has done with Mickey and the gang in the past. And they are continuing that tradition, this year.  Such as with Bean Bunny as an Ewok and Uncle Deadly as the Emperor.

But with Cars, it just seems odd. Look even as someone, that loves Cars, I'll be the first to admit that the universe really doesn't make much sense.    I mean, how they are going to run the Millennium Falcon and will that have eyes too.  And what about the lightsabers, how are they going to hold those.   Now I'll be briefly showing the pictures for each of these and giving my thoughts.  Let's start with the two most uninspired ones.

Uh,  tires as bun ears does NOT make Sally, Leia.  There is honestly there to indicate that she is supposed to be Leia other then the Star Wars background. This one is just kinda lame.    I mean, yeah I can see Sally as Leia as she is strong female character that is able to stand up for herself but there really isn't anything here aesthetically to indicate that this is Leia.   Moving on,  to the next one that is even worse.

Again,  how we are supposed to know that Fillmore is Yoda other then his rearview mirrors being ears. Yeah, you did the colors but it doesn't feel like Fillmore as Yoda.  It's just Fillmore, there really isn't all that much Yoda here in my opinion.     The next one is the big one,  is in my opinion perhaps one of the more confusing ones.

Darth Mater

I can kinda get this one because with other franchises,  they have had the comic relief characters as Vader. Such as with The Muppets using Gonzo but that goes to an episode of The Muppet Show, where Mark Hamil, Chewie  and R2 and 3PO appeared.  So, I'm okay with that but Darth Mater kinda feels like a stretch.  Thankfully, unlike Fillmore and Sally,  he actually has a Vader look to him.   The next one is McQueen as Luke

Okay, I want this one because he looks really cool.  I love Lighting Skywalker as I'm going to call him. This has that awesome action feel to it, that you get from some of the Star Wars moments. So, if I can find this one online, I might get it because so far, this is the only one I like. Next up is Luigi and Guido as R2-D2 and C-3PO

My opinion on this one,  R2 Guido isn't as cute as regular Guido. Something was lost in the  fusion.  And Luigi as 3PO is serviceable.    He's not bad but doesn't do anything for me.  And finally,  the tractors are the Stormtroopers.

I'd say this one is odd considering the tractors are cows in the Cars universe but if you look at the Muppets one,  they've used chickens. So, that's okay.

Overall, I can't say that I'm a fan of this idea and that more comes from the fact that it's just disappointing.  Now I'm a bigger Cars fan, then I am Star Wars fan and I think that's where my disappointment comes in.  I wanted to like these being the huge Cars fan that I am but even I have to admit that they really don't make sense but taking logic out of it as well.  Most of these other Darth Mater and Lighting Skywalker don't  really have much in the way of a Star Wars look to them with Sally as Leia and Fillmore as Yoda being the worst offenders.   Let's try a little exercise, look at the tractor but erase the Star Wars background and logo.  Would you still think that he was supposed to be a Stormtrooper?   I wouldn't.   Again as a Cars fan, I wanted to like thees but other then Lighting, which looks awesome,  most of them leave me with a feeling of "Oh, you really didn't try, did you?"   What are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments. Peace!
