Hello & welcome back to the finale of Theater Week. Today, I'll be closing out with music. And what better way to close out this event then with the music. Let's get started.
Watch What Happens
Now our first song comes from Newsies and I love it. And as I said in my review of the play, it is a great character song and quite honestly, it's fun. And also I love how Katherine is questioning herself because she is putting herself on the line agreeing to help the Newsies. This is just a great and empowering song.
Watch What Happens (Reprise)
Yeah, I wanted to look at the reprise again. Now the reprise is also really good because it shows that even though Jack is the leader, he needs people to be there for him and lift him back up. The Newsies had placed him so high up, forgetting that he is just a kid. But this song, we see Davey, Katherine, and Les rebuild Jack's spirit to continue the strike.
Me
My God, did I not think it was possible to make Gaston any more pompous then he already was? But this song does it and in spades. I love this song because Gaston is such a fool and so in love with himself. Not realizing that Belle doesn't love him. Dude, get over her and more importantly, get over yourself. Oh my lord, I love this. And I love Belle's little quips during this number.
She's In Love
This song is really cute and a lot of fun. And it sounds like something from an older type musical. It has a very Beach musical feel to it and that is appropriate considering that this is The Little Mermaid. It's fun hearing Ariel's sisters and Flounder ponder about Ariel being in love. Just a very fun and cute song.
And thus Theater Week has come to a close. I hope that you've enjoyed this special event as much as I enjoyed taking you to the theater.
