Hello & welcome back to A Look at Disney Opens The Toy Box. And today, we are starting our final stretch of the Toy Story event and we start this final bout with the Toy Story Toons. And we start with the first Toon as we look at Hawaiian Vacation.
With that out of the way, let's begin
The Plot
Admittedly, the plot is nothing special as it starts out with the toys thinking that they are going to get a week of relaxation as Bonnie going off a Hawaiian Vacation during her winter break but Ken and Barbie mistakenly thought that Bonnie would be taking her backpack with her on vacation and this leaves Ken bummed as he had been planning a big vacation for months and for the cute couple to even share their first kiss.
So, it's now up to the rest of the toys to give the couple, the Hawaiian Vacation of their dreams, which includes scuba diving, horseback riding and a luau.
And the couple does finally get to share their kiss in the freezing cold on the deck of The Anderson household.
This short is okay, It does have it's funny moments such as the scuba scene with Hamm switching to Shark Week or Buttercup telling Ken to get off of him and Rex as the state bird, The Nay Nay. But it's really nothing special. It's not bad but it's not too memorable either.
Characters
Ken & Barbie voiced by Micheal Keaton & Jodi Benson
This short isn't so much about the actions of these characters but rather interaction and reactions. And in that sense, they work well. They're fine for a short but I would never base a whole story around them. A short works because it gives you just enough of these characters and doesn't let these characters overstay their welcome.
My Final Thoughts
This short is alright. it's nothing too memorable but it's fun. It's really just a montage of Ken and Barbie on vacation and in that aspect, it works. Join me tomorrow as we look at Small Fry.
