Music Fridays # 29: More Halloween Fun

Hey guys, this is a last minute change but I have decided to take a look at some more Halloween songs.  Some of which I have talked about in the past and will appear soon as part of Halloween but eh.  Let the fun begin.

Trick or Treat

You'll see this song soon again when I review this short but as for a tease.  I think this is a very fun song and very fitting to the short and the Halloween spirit.  It is just so darn catchy and fun.  Just the way the lyrics play off of each other.  It makes everything work so well.  Defiantly a fun song and one that I would suggest listening around this time of year.  If you really want some good Halloween Disney fun.  I just Donald's face too because all of this stuff is freaking him the heck out. Wouldn't you be freaked out though?

Grim Grinning Ghosts

I know that included this song already but darn if isn't a classic.  Just everything about it fits the mood and time of year.  This in my opinion is probably one of the best Disney parks songs. It's not annoying like Small World and the lyrics to me just tell a much better story than  Pirates.  Now this video right here is what introduced me to this song and to be honest this video used the scare the crud out of me. There is just something about the character designs that as a young boy creeped me the heck out.  Looking back now it's just silly but in a good way.  It's fun and the villains are just so adorably goofy in this video.  I believe that is from one of the sing along videos but I'm not sure to be honest. So don't take my word on that because I first learned of this when it was Disney Channel.   I have to say this is one cool looking video.  

Who's Afraid of The Big Bad Wolf?

 Now I do intend to review on Classic Shorts Showcase but I felt that this song was just perfect.  If you know me by now,  you probably know that I'm going to classify this as a "Cruella" song  in that while I count it as a villain song it is not sung by the villain.  This song is just so fun and happy compared to the character of  The Big Bad  Wolf?  Who is perhaps one of the more overlooked Disney Villains?  Though he does look pretty funny.  You gotta love it when the Wolf actually shows up and those two little pigs are just so scared.  Is it just me or did anyone else get a craving for Pigs In a Blanket when they saw the pigs hide under the bed?  (groan)  Okay, that was bad but c'mon it was so easy.   

Brimstone And Treacle 

This next song comes from the stage adaption of Mary Poppins and is sung by Miss Andrews. The man antagonist of the play. She was Mr. Bank's nanny.  While never stated I think that it is stated she does make me think of a witch. This character really helps to explain the character of Mr. Banks and explain why he is the man we see as an adult because just listen to this lady.  She is creepy.  From my understanding, Miss Andrews who is not named after Julie Andrews was the villain of the Mary Poppins books but wasn't used in the Disney classic for one reason or another.  For anyone who hasn't seen the play version of Mary Poppins here is what Miss Andrews looks like.

Pink Elephants On Parade

Do I even need to give a reason as to why I included this one?  It's because I like Dumbo and this song does fit the Halloween spirit with the crazy visuals. Now I may have declared Heffalumps & Woozles the better song in the Vs. that I did but my heart will always belong to Dumbo.  This song is just so much fun.  It is so bizarre and kind of like a Big Lipped Alligator Moment but it still works and it is a fun song. While my favorite from the film, it is still a lot fun to watch.  I actually agree with two commenters that this pieces feels like that it could fit as a Fantasia piece well save for the whole singing but other than I agree.

Trust In Me

Ah, Sterling Holloway.  How I have missed your voice on A Look at Disney.  This is such a great song and very hypnotic. Which is appropriate as that is what Kaa is trying to do.  This is a very simple song and the way Kaa tricks Mowgli shows that he is a very capable villain. True he may be a comic foil when compared to Shere   Khan but this song to me shows that he is still a good villain. Simple but it works.
