Can We Talk About Tangled's Title

Welcome to my new segment, "CanWe Talk About" where I talk about something that has been bugging me within the realm of Disney, whether it be th movies, the music or even the fans. As you can see, today's first topic has to deal with the renaming of "Rapunzel" to "Tangled".    Now when this movie was renamed I noticed that there few Disney fan and online reviewers who disliked the name change. Understandable but my reaction was "Eh, as long as the story is good".  I feel that the people who bashed the name change forgot the old saying "Don't judge a book by its cover". Yes this is not a book but you could twist this to Don't judge a movie by its title



Now for this next part, I would like to run down a list of Disney films that did not share the same of the main character. I will admit that some of these do share the same of the source that they were adapted from. but in the long run I feel that has no effect on this. For the sake of this argument pretend as though you have never heard of these films.

Sleeping Beauty

First up is "Sleeping Beauty" In the film, the main character's name is Auora but the title of the film gives us a breif  description of the main character. We know she is a girl who is asleep

Beauty & The Beast

Now this one is a little trickier because it does kind of include the name of one of the main characters. I, of course am referring to Beast but just as with Sleeping Beauty, you can build up the ideas of these characters before you see the movie. When I hear Beast, I think of anger and rage and of course a monster and all of that was delivered.

And finally...

The Lion King

Here agian, this movie is not called Simba nd we know the title. The Lion King is an epic sounding title and when I first heard this title that what I pictured, a lion that was king and that is what I got and so much more.

Honestly, people who bash the name change to "Tangled" just comes off as disrespectful to me. You may not like the new ttile but please have the respect to adress the film by its title because to me that shows respect. Also, we how knew this movie was about Rapunzel and I think the name change still its as it alludes to her hair.  I can understand the reasoning for being upset by the name change because Disney supposedly wanted this film to appeal to the boy crowd. Again, I ask can we please just enjoy the film. Also, this was not the Disney movie to receive a name change because the company did not beleive it would be marketable. "The Great Mouse Detective" also received a name change. It's original title was "Basil of Baker Street" but the higher ups at Disney did n think it was marketable and they thought it was also a little bland. Hence they changed the title to what we know it as today.

I just wanted to talk about this, there may be more in the future but please understand whereI'm coming from.  Let's end this on a happy note.
