Pluto

Welcome back to my week long look at the Disney Mainstays. Today, we will be taking a look at the most playful pup from Disney and Mickey's best pal... Pluto.  The routine is the same, brief bio, favorite moment and favorite cartoon.  Before I start did it ever confuse anyone else seeing Goofy driving a car and Pluto being a pet a they are both dogs. I don't know  but that is something that used to confuse me.  Let's begin

Pluto's Bio

Pluto first appeared in the animated short,  The Chain Gang.  However he played  a rather minor role and just as with Chip & Dale, it would take another cartoon before he was given a name in the short, The Picnic.  Pluto did not receive the name he is known by today until the short,  The Moose Hunt.  The name has since then stuck.   Pluto has had many anagontists to deal with over the years. They include Donald Duck, chip & Dale, and Figaro the Cat.  Some of you may remember Figaro as being Gepetto's pet while that  was true for that movie later he would go to become Minnie's pet cat in the Mickey Mouse universe. 

At one point, Pluto was also give a son named Pluto Jr. but unlike Huey, Dewey & Louie, he was not as popular.  Pluto also became an older brother to a character named  K.B.   Again, he never caught on.

While Pluto never appeared in  a Disney Afternoon era show, he was an in House of Mouse. We will get to that show in the future. Pluto was just basically the mascot for the club but he was still the same old Pluto.

My Favorite Pluto Moment

My favorite Pluto moment comes from Pluto's Christmas Tree.   Now I know yesterday I said I did not like the Chip & Dale cartoons where they are paired with Pluto but this one is the exception.  There is one scene in particular that gets me crackin' up. It is the scene where Pluto is growling and trying to confront the Chipmunks.

My Favorite Pluto Short

This short is rather dark but I enjoy it.  In this short Pluto is caught by Mickey chasing a kitten and then Pluto falls asleep by the fireplace and has a bad dream where is put on trial for chasing cats but in Hell, no less. Yes, I said in Hell, this may seem surprising but back in the day, Disney could get away with doing. I think part of the reason I enjoy this short is the weird dream sequence. Boy, I have must some twisted taste, two of these shorts have featured Disney characters in nightmarish lands.
