Can We Talk about Descendants 2

Hello & welcome back to A Look at Disney.  Descendants, the worst film that I have reviewed on A Look at Disney is getting a sequel and the first cast photo has been released along with the plot synopsis.  Let's start with the cast photo.

Rainbow Dash can you help me out here...

Thank you, and now what of the plot.

Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay (also known as Villain Kids or VKs) — try to find their place in idyllic Auradon. When the pressure to be royally perfect becomes too much for Mal, she returns to her rotten roots on the Isle of the Lost where her archenemy Uma, the daughter of Ursula, has taken her spot as self-proclaimed queen of the run-down town. Uma, still resentful over not being selected by Ben to go to Auradon Prep with the other Villain Kids, stirs her pirate gang including Captain Hook’s son Harry and Gaston’s son Gil, to break the barrier between the Isle of the Lost and Auradon, and unleash all the villains imprisoned on the Isle, once and for all.

Okay, so it appears that Ursula's daughter is the main villain. Wait, who under the sea wanted to have a kid with that sea witch?  And good gravy, this series cannot keep track of it's own continuity because, this movie is introducing the son of Gaston, yet apparently, the prequel book, introduced Gaston's sons, Gaston Jr. & Gaston III and the animated series introduced Hook's kid, a girl named CJ.   Granted, there is the possibility that Harry is her brother but this is the first time that he's ever been mentioned.

It just baffles me that you introduce these characters but you never use them, even though fans are familiar with them but they are pushed to the side, when the movie comes out.  Yes, there are fans of this franchise as I found out when I posted a comment that just said No... just no on D23's Facebook page and I was told that people that are critical of this franchise should just let the fans enjoy it.  But as I said in my reply.

The problem I have with this "movie" is that it doesn't get Disney. It takes some of the greatest Disney villains and turns them into complete idiots that would never act the way, they do in this movie. The arcs of the main characters is so paper thin that the progression is barely noticeable. Cinderella's son is the biggest jerk ever from any Disney Channel movie and the only way that I find it believable, that he'd turn out that way, would be either Cinderella died or he is actually the son of Cinderella's Prince from Into The Woods. I'm critical of this film because I'm such a huge Disney fan and this movie doesn't care about Disney or any of their beloved characters. It just used them as a cheap cash grab to have something that could compete against Monster High. That is most evident by the fact that Maleficent would never sing a showtune, if we are to believe that this is supposed to be the same Mistress of Evil from the animated Sleeping Beauty and the Be Our Guest Hip Hop remix, which was done just to be trendy. And dates the film.

I stand by every word that I said there, this franchise. (I hate that I have to it a franchise) is that it doesn't get Disney and instead just decided to use these classic characters as a cheap cash grab to get a new franchise started. Descendants is the 10's equivalent of the direct-to-video cheapquels.  It uses classic characters to make money and doesn't care about what they stand for or the legacy that they have.  It just sees them as a way to make a quick buck and that is why I hate this franchise so much.

It is taking classic characters and trying to make them hip and trendy to sell them a young audience but they'll most likely forget about this film as soon as they grow up.   The way it misuses some of my favorite characters bugs me as it just doesn't get Disney and when into great detail about that in my review of  the movie and I know that I said that I wasn't going to review the sequel but well, look at this.

I cannot pass this opportunity to riff on this stupid movie and point out how they butcher other great Disney villains including one from my favorite of the Renaissance era.  Dear lord, at least they haven't announced that Ariel and Eric are in this.  I so do not want them to be a part of this cash grab. Peace!  (I'm going to need a lot of it before this diasterpiece comes out).
