When I last wrote about Christmas specials, I just included the newer ones but today, I would like to take a look at some of the older Christmas shorts. Also stay tuned to two special announcements at the end of the post. Let's get started here, now shall we.
Pluto's Christmas Tree (1952)
Run Time: 7 Mins
While this short is labeled is introduced as Mickey Mouse cartoon, he is not the star. His dog, Pluto is the star, I beleive this was before they started gving Pluto his own shorts. The story is simple Pluto and Mickey go outside to chop down a Christmas tree and bring it home. However, when the tree they chop down is home to Chip & Dale. This is when the hijinks ensue because Chip & Dale start messing with the Christmas tree and start attacking poor Pluto. The entire time, Mickey never sees the chipmunks and this aggravates Pluto to attack the tree, which wrecks and finally Mickey sees the chipmunks and ends with the characters singing with carolers. This is a great liittle short and you should be able to find these and other Disney classics on amazon.com or you may even want to check your local Cracker Barrel. Because they usually sell DVDs of old shows and cartoons in the store area.
Toy Tinkers (1949)
Run Time: 8 Mins
Once again, this short features Chip & Dale but this time they are harassing Donald Duck. The short starts when Chip & Dale see a bowl of walnuts in Donald's house. The chipmunks decide to go inside Donald's house and they start to steal them but Donald notices and tries to get them back. The fight for the walnuts turns into an all-out Christmas war with Donald fighting with Chip & Dale over the walnuts. Donald builds a barricade from all the presents to protect himself but alas it does not work as Chip & Dale end up with the walnuts in the end. Again, you can look for this on amazon or as I stated earlier check your local Cracker Barrel. You can also check Wal-Mart because they are usually good with DVDs.
Santa's Workshop (1932)
Run Time: 7 Mins
The last short that will be covered today is "Santa's Workshop" This is the oldest short being covered as it came out in 1932. Also this short is a Silly Symphony short. That means that it does not feature the standard Disney characters such as Mickey or Donald. Also with this short being a Silly Symphony that means all the lines are sung. The story is simple, Santa and his elves are getting ready for his Christmas Eve run with making toys and going over his Naughty/Nice list. This short is actually a prequel to another Silly Symphony titled "The Night Before Christmas". Which shows Santa delivering all the toys. One of my favorite things in watching this short is that one of the toys looked like Charlie Chaplin. I'm not so sure if this short is offered on amazon.com but you could check.
I highly suggest that you check out theses shorts because they are some of the best Christmas fun, one could ever have
