Take A Look at Disney

Can We Talk about The Inclusion of Disney Characters On Small World

It's a Small World or sometimes just Small World for short is one of Disney's most  beloved (and perhaps most mocked) attractions.  It is a simple ride with a wonderful and beautiful visuals.  Not too long ago Small World has become home to some new friends.  A while back a decision was made to add characters from Disney and Pixar films to this classic attraction.  Now at first I was angered by this decision because it just didn't feel right and if you know my feelings about the inclusion of Jack Sparrow on Pirates you could understand where I'm coming from.   Now let me make one thing clear I haven't been on Small World in Disneyland since the characters have been added. This is more of an observation from the outside in.

But after taking a look at the characters and how they were included, I calmed down because they didn't look too bad well except for Lilo who in my opinion doesn't look like Lilo and really the only way I could tell it was Lilo was by Stitch standing next to her.

This is probably the biggest distraction because all the other characters in the ride look fine.  Take for example Ariel or Aladdin and Jasmine.

They look fine and yes while Aladdin uses more elements from the film, it stills fits into the design of the ride.  The characters look fine to me.  One of my worries when I first learned of this is that the characters would look too cute  if that makes any sense. In that they would be so sickly cute  that is almost embarrassing.  Take for example this doll of Rapunzel from Tangled re-imagined  as a toddler or also the toddler version of Belle

This is part of a new line of dolls that features the Disney Princesses and Mulan as toddlers. This is a practice that I'm against altogether because it's stupid but getting back on topic.  When the characters were included in Small World, yes they look younger and have a cuter appeal to them but it isn't overdone.  You can still tell who the characters and from the looks of it, Disney didn't feel the need to mess with the characters too much unlike what happened with these dolls. To be fair Rapunzel probably wasn't the best example as we did see her as a little girl in her film but not Belle.  That's whole other rant.  What I'm getting at is that it could have been much worse and Disney could have done something really stupid but no they actually thought about it and worked out the planning and put some thought into where they wanted to place each character.

They didn't go in and just place them all over willy nilly and not give a hoot.  They also tried to respect the ride by giving each of the new characters from the films a look that would fit into. Such as Alice and The White Rabbit. Sure you could make the argument that they shouldn't be included as their story isn't set in our world but rather Wonderland but they still fit.

They look perfectly fine.  Really at end of the day, it could have been much worse. They could have modernized the song. Which you rather have classic Disney characters as part of a classic attraction or an update of the classic song that appeals to the Justin Beiber fans. Out of the two, I'll take the Disney characters.  When you think they messed something up. Just realize that it could've been worse.  What are thoughts?  Do you like the characters on the ride or not? Tell me in the comments. Peace!
