Tiana Vs. Belle

Hello and welcome to Vs.  Today, we have two Disney princesses facing off.  From The Princess and The Frog, Tiana and from Beauty and The Beast, Belle.  Now this is the second time that a character from Beauty and The Beast has appeared on Vs.  The last Vs. was Gaston Vs. Brom Bones and Gaston took home the prize that round. Let's find out if Beauty and The Beast can remain undefeated or will The Princess and The Frog''s Tiana come out on top. Now just so you know, I'm only focusing on these two and I won't be comparing their princes because I want to see how well these ladies can stand on their own.  Today, I'll be judging them on personality, determination,  song, defining moment, and of course,  The Film Factor. Which as a reminder is look at well both of these characters work in their respective films. Now let's begin and we'll start with...

Personality (Round 1)

 Both Belle and Tiana  are both women that are independent but it comes across in a different way for both.  

Tiana 

Tiana is an independent lady in the beginning of her film who basically come across as someone who doesn't have time to do anything other focus getting her restaurant.  This almost makes appear cold but I don't think that's fair to say, she's just career driven but she does make time for socialization and her friends but the entire time, she's working towards her goal and I think that is admirable.  She is good hearted person if a little closed off at times.   It is clear that she does care for others as evidenced by her relationship with her mother.

Belle 

Belle is an interesting character because in the beginning of the film, she'd rather have her nose in a book than actually socialize with people.  I do believe that throughout the film and her time at the castle she becomes more open to spending time with people. Something that Tiana would already do, even if it felt as though Tiana was doing it unwillingly.  Granted, we do see Belle interact with people in the town in a gracious manner but we never find out what else she likes besides reading. Belle in the beginning more closed in and perhaps a little sheltered.  Though it's evident that she does truly love her papa, Maurice and do anything to protect him as seen when she gives herself up to free Maurice.  While this is a nice gesture and vary commendable,  I feel that her personality can fall flat in some areas. Determination (Round 2)

Now onto Round 2, Determination.

Tiana

Tiana as stated when talking about her personality,  she is career driven  and works hard to get dream to come true.  As I said before I find this to be commendable and this shows that she is full of determination and drive to get what she wants. She follow her father's advice that if you want a dream, you have to work for it and that is a great lesson.  

Belle

Now it's harder to say where Belle's determination comes from  but I think that she does have some sort of determination.  I think her determination comes from her wanting to prove that she doesn't need someone in her life.  Still, I find Tiana's to be more apparent and that's why this round goes to...

Song (Round 3)

Now we come to something that is important to the films and character, the songs.  Now I have chosen songs that I feel best represent both of these characters.   For Tiana, I have chosen Almost There and for Belle, I chose what else, Belle.

Almost There (Tiana)

 

I will say that this song does do a nice job of setting up what Tiana wants and explains her character more but I think this is the weakest song from this film.  It's not bad but I think it is the most forgettable save for the animation, which is gorgeous.  I don't know, it just doesn't stick out. 

Belle (Belle)

I actually feel that this song does a splendid job of introducing to the audience to the character of Belle. We get to find out what she likes and what she is like as well. It shows her as a smart young lady with a good head on her shoulders. Also this song to me is one of the best from this film and they couldn't have picked a better way to open this film. Defining Moment (Round 4)

Now it's harder to judge this part but I included it.   Let's begin.

Tiana

For Tiana,  I believe that her defining moment, you could choose any moment from the film but I believe her defining moment has to be when she stands up to Dr. Facilier and tells him that he doesn't need his magic to make her dreams a reality because her father always taught her choose the right  path to chase your dream.  I believe it was poignant and it shows what Tiana is all about.  

Belle 

I believe Belle's defining moment is when she uses the mirror to show the mob, Beast and states that she loves him.  When she says she loves Beast, she sounds frightened as to what the mob was going to do to Beast and wanted to protect him.  I feel that this is the moment when it was most clear that Belle was in love with Beast. The Film Factor (Final Round)

Now we come to the final round and  this decides, were all tied up right now with these ladies both taking 2 rounds each. Who will come out on top? Let's find out.

Tiana

With Tiana she acted with characters that she met along the way to meet Mam Odie and while she did meet new character and there are moments of genuine interaction with the characters is entertaining. The interaction she has with the characters is great.

Belle

It's funny while Belle is stationary at Beast's castle throughout most of the film, I feel that she does a better job in her film and I actually believe her interaction with the other characters in her film is much stronger and much more poignant. It's stronger and part of that comes from the fact that she is given more characters to work off of.  Don't get me wrong, Tiana is vital to her film but I feel Belle has the stronger film factor. The End Result

Belle came out in the last three rounds and stole the win.  She had the better song, her defining moment was much more powerful and I feel that added more to her film.
