Classic Shorts Showcase: The Cookie Carnival

Hello & welcome back to Classic Shorts Showcase. Today, I'll be taking a look at the short, The Cookie Carnival. With that out of the way, let's begin.

The Plot

Okay, I'll admit the plot of this short while not bad is pretty thin. It starts out as we see a parade going on a la The Cookie Carnival and then we see a cookie boy (aka Hobo Cookie) is walking by and sees a girl cookie crying because she doesn't have any clothes to wear and she wants to be in The Cookie Carnival. The Cookie Boy gives her a makeover and when he's finished, he looks less like a cookie and more like a human being. It was a little creepy how much she looked like real girl. She ends up winning and becomes The Cookie Queen and then she is told that she needs to select a suitor to be her king and then we go through all these other dessert characters such  as old baked cookies, angel food cake, devil's food cake and many others, she turns them down when The Cookie Boy reappears and chooses him to be her king.  And then they kiss.  Okay, I have a big issue with this, The Cookie Boy only acted as a friend and there really wasn't much chemistry between these two and I mean after The Cookie Girl became Queen, we didn't see The Cookie Boy interact with her at all and he became a background character.  It wasn't bad but it just seemed unbalanced.

Characters

The Cookie Boy voiced by Pinto Colvig

The Cookie Boy was a nice character if a bit forgettable.  As I said above, when he first appeared he was a great character and I think that he was supposed to be one of the main characters but really, he took a backseat to the story.  That was perhaps one of my biggest issues. If he was supposed to be a main character, he should've had more to do.  That is perhaps one of my biggest gripes.

The Cookie Girl/The Cookie Queen - Voice Unlisted

The Cookie Girl was cute and nice but again, didn't really get much to do.  There really isn't all that much to say about her. As I said earlier, after the makeover, she looks a bit creepy.

She looks less like a cookie and more like a real person. Looking at these characters again, it seems the animators were more concerned with the visuals in this short then telling a good story because the story at best is forgettable.

My Final Thoughts

This short is okay for the visuals at least but the story isn't really there and the characters are at best forgettable. I'd say watch it for the visuals but you'll forget about it after you watch it.
