Hello & welcome back to Classic Shorts Showcase. Today, I'll be taking a look at the short, The Clock Store. With that out of the way, let's begin.
The Plot
Admittedly, there is no real plot here but that is true of a lot of the older Silly Symphonies. Because at best, they were just vignettes for the animators to show off and that can be enjoyable or be disastrous but thankfully, with this short, it was the former. The best way to describe this short is by saying that in it, it after a clock store has closed, we see all the clocks in the store come to life and partake in various activities. From dancing to two clocks duking it out. This short is filled to the brim with great moments. So, this was very enjoyable and it was easy to follow along.
Memorable Moments
Now seeing as this short didn't have any one main character and it was instead as I said a series of vignettes, I'll be looking at what I consider the Memorable Moments.
Cuckoo Clock
Of course his short had to have a cuckoo clock and it is one of the first things we see at The Clock Store. Luckily, it didn't stay too long but it was a nice touch.
Dancers
The animation on this sequence was just gorgeous and so beautiful to watch. It almost felt as though I was watch two real people and not clock figurines dancing. It's funny how graceful this scene is when compared to my next moment.
Clock Fight
The final sequence in this short had to be my favorite. It was an all out clock brawl to the death. Trust me, it really seemed that way. It was so absurd and silly watching these two clocks fight each other and the fight started just because another clock tapped both of them leading them to believe they had punched each other. Watching this fight was so engaging, it felt like I was watching these two clocks in a bar fight. This easily had to be the highlight of this short.
My Final Thoughts
If you want a good time, watch this short. It is a great time and there are so many other great moments that I didn't even mention to be found in this short. This short is just good old fun. Not every short needs to go for a moral and yeah, I usually like those types of shorts but I also like these vignette type shorts as evidenced with the highly underrated Farmyard Symphony. As I said, you'd be doing yourself a favor to check this short out.
