Hello & welcome back to A Look at Disney and to a special countdown. Siblings, for those of us that have them, we love them. they can drive us up the wall. They can comfort us. They convince to do something that looking back on it may not have been the best idea. They are sometimes your first friend, your closest confidant. You confide in things that no one else would understand. The love and bond of a sibling is special and strong and that's why today, I'm counting down my Top 6 Animated Siblings. For those, that want to know why, I'm only doing animated. Well, there will be a companion live action list coming soon.
6. Mickey & Oswald - Epic Mickey, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two
Coming in at # 6, we have a pair of siblings that at first glance may not seem to be siblings but if you've played the Epic Mickey games, you that Warren Specter presented these two of brothers with Oswald being the jealous older brother of Mickey who had stolen his spotlight and ruined his life. This both refers to how once Mickey came along, no one cared about Oswald and how Mickey unintentionally created Wasteland. What Specter did is rather fascinating in that he took the history of what happened to Oswald in the real world and worked that into a sibling relationship and now, people view these two as siblings and see that through the first game, they have to mend broken fences and Oswald has to let go of the past and the grudge that he had been holding on too in order to save Wasteland. I truly think that this was a unique way to convey and introduce that important part of Disney history to players of the first game. And ever since playing the first game, I have come to view these two as brothers. Sure, they had some rough patches in the beginning but they got through and are now pretty close.
5. Tinker Bell & Periwinkle - Secret of The Wings
Coming in at # 5, we have the inspiration for this list in the first place, Tinker Bell and Periwinkle from the Tinker Bell movie, Secret of The Wings. Tinker Bell and Periwinkle are twin fairies as they were born from the same laugh of a baby. Periwinkle is a winter fairy and like her sister has many interests such as collecting and the movie is about them exploring their newly found sisterhood against all odds as their is a rule put in place that the fairies of Pixie Hollow and the Winter Fairies i.e., Periwinkle are not allowed to interact with one another because of an incident that occurred in the past but through it all, we see Tink and Periwinkle become sisters and share their new now found sibling love. And I honestly think that it is rather sweet watching them against all odds become sisters and realize that they have so much in common and as the next installment, the rule has been lifted and they can now see each other more frequently. Now, I know that some people don't like the idea of Tinker Bell having a sister but I honestly don't mind it because I find that it was executed rather well and made very believable and Periwinkle is not just a frost covered version of Tinker Bell and got to be her own character.
4. Kenai & Koda - Brother Bear
Coming in at # 4, we have Kenai & Koda from Brother Bear. Sure, this movie is looked down upon a bit but I truly like the relationship, we see develop between these two as they become siblings. It helps Kenai to understand what it means to be a brother and that he has to grow up and cannot take his vengeance out on the death of his brother on the bear. And their relationship becomes even harder once Koda learns what happened to his mom but the two new brothers work through the rough patches and through it all, they build a stronger bond for it.
3. Huey, Dewey, & Louie - Classic Disney Shorts, DuckTales, Quack Pack, House of Mouse
Coming in at # 3, we have one of the most classic pair of Disney siblings, Huey, Dewey, & Louie. These three have stuck together through it all and are some of the most tight knit siblings we've ever seen in Disney lore. Sure, they are troublemakers and like to play pranks on their Uncle Donald and the whole reason, they were sent to him was because they landed their father in the hospital after placing a firecracker under his chair. Even through all of the pranks, they pull on their Uncle Donald, they stick together and as we will see next month during the Christmas event, they do truly care for him. They just like messing with Uncle Donald.
2. Phineas & Ferb - Phineas & Ferb
Coming in at # 2, we have step brothers, Phineas & Ferb. Again, these two are so tight and you've never see them fight with one another unless of course, you count the Star Wars special, which isn't canon. So even then, that doesn't count.
If you watch the series long enough, you realize that these two make one another better and they are better for being a part of their lives. And you see how much joy they have in one another's company when building their inventions.
1. Elsa & Anna - Frozen
Yeah, I'm pretty sure, you saw this one coming as soon you saw what the topic was. I love Frozen, it's one of my all time favorite Disney movies and the biggest reason for that is the relationship between Elsa & Anna. To me, this is where Disney perfected the presentation of siblings in an animated movie. The relationship felt so real and it was one that I could relate to so much in life because for so many years, I felt like Anna in my relationship with my big sister as there were many years that we were apart just like these sisters but over time, we came together and just like Anna, I too believe this.
She's my sister, she would never hurt me
So yes, this is more emotional than anything as I relate the most to the relationship of these two sisters with me being the fun loving oblivious an naive sibling that looked up to his older sibling in the same way that Anna loves Elsa. And besides that I truly enjoyed watching these two reconcile their relationship and see it become all the stronger through their journey.
There you have it, my Top 6 Animated Siblings. What are some of your favorite Disney siblings? Let me know in the comments. Peace!
