It's time for another Music Fridays and today, we will taking a look at songs of one individual person.
Annette Funicello. Now I don't if any of the people reading this have seen the old Black & White Mickey Mouse Club. The first version, if you haven't that is where Annette got her start and she soon became the Breakout Star of the show and many boys were falling for her. Annette stayed with Disney long after her days as a Mousekteer ended, well into her teen years as we will see in one of the songs featured today. Annette is actually a Disney Legend and I'm not making that up either she is a certified Disney Legend.
Here is a link to her Disney Legend page
Now I will admit that I have not seen all of the movies that Annette starred in, I know I know that makes an imperfect Disney fan. However I have listened to these songs plenty of times thanks to my Sherman Brothers Songbook CD. I will say that some of these songs are catchy as heck. Let's begin.
The Setlist
Tall Paul
Tall Paul is the first song Anette sang outside of the Mickey Mouse Club. This song here is a simple song about Annette's boyfriend named Paul and how they love each other. Nothing too special here just a fun little song that can put me in the right mood when I listen to it. Now I chose this video in particular because of the performance this is one of the strangest things that I have seen because here you have Annette performing this song in a puppet costume being puppeteered by Dick Clark on American Bandstand.
Strummin' Song
This song here is another fun one wit the basic premise being wherever their is a guitar if you sing along you'll have a good time. Annette's character is saying a song can make you happy and make you forget about your worries. This song right here takes me back to simpler times before the days of tech and stuff. It is very peaceful and relaxing.
Lonely Guitar
This song here actually comes from the old Zorro TV series that Disney used to air and I wanted to include this song as it shows a different side of Annette than all the other songs that I have featured. This song here is rather sentimental as this character wonders will someone love her and she isn't talking of a boy but rather her family. Now there is a break for conservation, normally that would bug me but here learning about the father character helps the audience to understand the emotion of this song. I had never heard this song until I started looking up songs by Annette on YouTube and I gotta say this is a great song. I just wish I had known about it when I did my Top 6 Underrated Disney Songs as this one would have made the list.
Monkey's Uncle
This last song has to be my favorite Annette song, it is titled Monkey's Uncle. It shares its title with the film of the same name. Now just like Tall Paul, Annette's character is talking about the way she loves her guy but it is just so darn catchy. Sort of makes me want to get up and dance. Fun Fact, those suave young men with Annette are The Beach Boys.
There you go, these are my favorite Annette songs. What was your favorite from the setlist? Is there an Anette song, you like that I did not include. Tell me in the comments, also let me know if there is any other Disney artist you would like to se be covered on Music Fridays. To end this here is an interview with Anette. I'm not sure how old it is but I think this is the right way to close this Music Fridays. Come back, next week for Offical Music Videos.
