A Tribute to Carrie Underwood: My Top 6 Favorite Carrie Underwood Songs

Oh, Carrie. How I love thee.   Oh, sorry.   I know this is another non-Disney countdown but I've had this idea in the back of my head for a while now.  Carrie Underwood is one of my favorite female artists of all time as she has churned out a lot of great songs since her Idol win back in '05 and she's my favorite contestant to ever appear on the show.  Her voice is just gorgeous.   So I've decided to do one last non-Disney countdown as sort of a follow up article to my Garth Brooks cross over with Dark Jak, counting down the songs of my favorite female artist.  Join me as I countdown My Top 6  favorite Carrie Underwood songs but first an honorable mention

Honorable Mention

Ever Ever After

To start things off,  I have this little gem right here from Disney's Enchanted.   Now I've admitted in the past that I don't believe this to be one of Carrie's stronger performances but nonetheless I still enjoy it and the music video for it is what really sells it for me. There is just something about seeing Carrie Underwood in the 2D Disney animation that I find really cool and I like the core message of this song, that it's okay to have a dream but you need to be willing to work for it and now just because you got your happy ending, it's take work for it to stay alive.

6.  I Told You So (With Randy Travis)

On her 2007 album, Carnival Ride, Carrie covered the Randy Travis song, I Told You So and while I like her version,  I thought wouldn't it be cool if she and Randy Travis did a duet version of it and my wish was granted when one day on YouTube I found this clip from Idol where Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis performed the song together.   I don't know what it is but I think this version works better because I feel like with the Randy Travis, you get the perspective of the man and with Carrie's you get the perspective of the woman but with the duet, you get both perspectives and also I'm a sucker for when the artist of the original does a cover of a song of theirs with another artist.   It's the same reason, I consider the Vince Gill and Dolly Parton version of I Will Always Love You, the best version of that song.

5.   Just A Dream

If there is one thing that most of Carrie Underwood's videos and songs are good at, it would be getting me teary eyed.    Out of all of her videos,  I think this is one is the most tragic and some of the most haunting imagery that helps to drive home the message of the song.  To set up the story,  Carrie plays a young woman is about to get married to a solider who is about to go off to war and during the video, we see the wedding but towards  the end,  the wedding seamlessly turns into the funeral of her boyfriend and we find out the wedding was only in her dream and that the funeral was real and that her boyfriend died in war.   She was broken hearted over losing him and understandably so.  Even though I only ranked this one at # 5,  I find this to be one of Carrie Underwood's best videos. I'll admit that it is hard to watch because of the subject matter but I feel that it is handled in a very tactful and respectful manner.

4.  All-American Girl

After # 5, how about something of lighter fare?   If you want to understand why I have a crush on Carrie Underwood, just watch this music video.  This is one of the cutest an funnest songs that has been recorded and  I love all of the costume changes in here.  Sure,  it's lighthearted and isn't meant to leave an impression or make you stop and think but not all songs need to be like that and for me, this song can always put me in a good. It's just cute and I love it for that.

3. Jesus, Take The Wheel

Now, there was no way that this song was getting left off the list.   This is the song that made Carrie Underwood a star and this video is when I first took notice of her. It also made me believe  that with songs like these, she is at her best and puts so much emotion into them that I can't help but be moved each time, I listen to them. The song may be simple in asking for forgiveness and guidance but the raw emotion that is poured into this song makes me believe every word I hear.

2.  Temporary Home

This is in my opinion, bar none, Carrie Underwood's best music video.  I love all she starts out as an observer of everything going on but when he get to the old man, we find out that it is her grandfather. Brilliant,  it adds more weight to this already powerful song.   Also I just love the meaning of this song of  how the idea of Temporary Home means that we may not want to be are we are right now but things will get better eventually.  I believe that, things may not be perfect right now but in due time,  it'll turn out okay.   This is a song that can be described as both sad and happy. Sad with the stories of these but happy that they know things will eventually get better.

1.  The Night Before (Life Goes On)

Have you ever listened to a song on an album that wasn't promoted as a single but you thought that it should've been and it deserved it's own music video but alas it never got one.   This is where my all time favorite Carrie Underwood song comes in.  One Easter, I received Carrie Underwood's album, Some Hearts and while I enjoyed all the songs, this one stood out for me more than any other.  I can't say why but I think that this is a perfect song and has the best story in any of Carrie Underwood's songs.   I'll admit I've never experienced love like what is depicted in the song but that does not stop me from enjoying it.   I can listen to this song at any point and be happy.  I love the story that is told here and playing it out in my head and when this album came out, I wanted this song to get it's own music video because it is that and I think imagery can only enhance the beautiful story in this song.   Out of any Carrie Underwood song, this is the one that I can listen to the most.

There you have it, my Top 6 Carrie Underwood songs.

Music Fridays # 48: Rock Around The Mouse

Hello and welcome back to Music Fridays.  Today, we will once again be delving int the obscure novelty albums from Disney as we Rock Around The Mouse.  Speaking of which that brings me to our first song...

Rock Around The Mouse

I love the image for the cover of this album fits the mood of this song rather well.  It has a '50s vibe to it and it is just so much fun.   Although Goofy as a soda jerk, intriguing casting there.  This is just a simple song but it is just so much fun and that's all the song is trying to be. Fun and it works.

Pinocchio's Boogie

This one is okay and has a good moral to it but I don't think the idea of the song fits with this genre.  It's not bad but  just seems lacking.  A similar problem, that I noticed with the first song.  Of course coming off of Splashdance, which was awesomely cheesy, it's hard to say that these songs are as good but on their own. They're okay.

Quackety Quack

Now this is more like it.  This song is so much fun even if the voice of Daisy is a bit jarring but only because I'm not used to hearing her sound like that. This song is so funny and I actually remember a different variation of this song growing up but I have to say that I like this one better if only because hearing Donald fight back is so funny and so in character with him. So far this is the best song.

Mickey Motion

Ah, the one song I knew from this album before I even started this thing. I love this song not as much as Mickey, She's Got a Crush On You but it is just so much fun and I love the way that it is sung.  And I love the Mickey voice in this song.  This song is just so much fun and perhaps the best song of this group.   I know what I said up top but I'm allowed to change my mind.

We're still not done with these novelty albums.  Join me next week for the final one of these as I take a look at ...

The First Ever A Look at Disney Character Tourney

I bring to you the first ever A Look at Disney Character Tourney, where you get to vote for your favorite character and the theme is Classic Characters.   I'll give you my thoughts on each of the match ups here today.

Now this may seem dragged out a bit but I'll only be doing one match up at a time but I think you guys should be able  to figure out how is this going to work.   Before the final round, there will be two rounds, which will be broken down into two match ups.

Round 1

Match Up 1: Mickey Vs. Oswald

This one I have to say that I see Mickey taking the win.    It's nothing against Oswald personally but he's been out of the public conscious for so long that it may be a while before people warm up to him again. I mean he had a great re introduction to the public  in Epic Mickey but when people think Disney, they think Mickey as  he is the star of Disney.  Therefore I have to say that I think this'll be a clean sweep for the little guy.

Match Up 2: Goofy Vs. Donald

I  could see this one going either way because these two are some of the funniest Disney characters and they both represent parts of the everyman. Donald with his short temper and Goofy with his good natured attitude  and always looking for the bright side of life.  Plus they both have a lot of fans but my prediction is that Donald will take it just because I think people can relate to him more than Goofy.

There you have it,  I think it is going to end up being Mickey Vs. Donald but maybe you'll prove me wrong with your votes.

Now onto my thoughts for Round 2

Round 2

Match Up 1: Minnie Vs. Daisy

This one I could see going either way during the voting but I have a feeling that Minnie will come out and pull a win over Daisy.   Not that Daisy isn't popular but compared to the other characters nominated save for Oswald, I think she is one of the more forgettable characters.  She's not a bad character  but I think Minnie is more memorable.

Match Up 2: Pluto Vs. Chip 'n' Dale

I think next to Goofy Vs. Donald this is the hardest one to call.   These are great characters and  they've had a lot of great interaction with each other.  I love Pluto because he is so cute and fun but Chip 'n' Dale are hysterical with their antics but if I had to choose a winner, I think it's going to go to Chip 'n' Dale.    Nothing against Pluto but I bet a lot of people who'll be voting may have watched Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers and have stronger nostalgia for Chip 'n' Dale because of that show then they do for Pluto.

You have until  April 8th,  11:59 AM  East Coast time to vote for either Mickey or Oswald and then when the winner of that round is announced, I post the poll for Goofy Vs. Donald and let you know when you can vote.   Have fun!  Make sure to go to my site, where you'll find the poll for the first match up.

Classic Shorts Showcase: The Ugly Duckling (1939)

Hello and welcome back to Classic Shorts Showcase.  Today, we continue our back to back look at The Ugly Duckling shorts as I look at the 1939 short.  Now I should mention that this short was the very last Silly Symphony made and after watching it, I have to say, what a short to go out on? You'll find out what I mean soon enough but I'll tease ya by using my favorite phrase for shorts like this: beautifully simple.  You'll being see throughout this review a lot.

The Plot

Unlike our last short, this one stays truer to the actual tale.  We followed The Ugly Duckling.  Y'know what, I'm going to call him just Duckling from now on because he isn't ugly at all.  The short is simple in that we open with the short focusing on a duck family where a mother is about to hatch eggs and when we see them hatch, we see little ducklings and then we see the last egg hatch and it is actually a swan.   He was rejected by the ducks because he was different and he was trying to find his place in the world by finding a new family. He starts by going to another bird family who again rejects him and then he finds a wooden bird that he thinks has finally accepted him until he thinks that the bird hurt him and he just breaks down and cries. My heart broke at seeing the little guy crying but that didn't last for long as a swan family and accepted him.  I love love loved this short.  It was so cute and gorgeous.  I love seeing the Duckling's interactions with everyone else and my heart just sank in that  he felt as though he'd never be accepted.    Oh, I forgot to mention that the mother bird and father bird got into a fight after our main character was hatched. Here's a pic of them fighting.

Character

The Duckling

The Duckling was such a cute character and I loved him throughout the entire short.  Unlike the last short, where I laughed at that Duckling because he was funny, here while I would laugh at his actions, he wasn't a funny character but rather a character that felt out of place in the world. I'm happy that I've taken look at this short because I love stories like this as should be clear with Dumbo being my favorite film.   He was a simple character but that's because he is just a child and he was just  trying to find his place in this world.  It was so much fun watching her interactions with the others and I was overjoyed when the swan family took him in.   Here are some pictures of those.

My Final Thoughts

Honestly folks, my review did not do this short justice. It's impossible to give a short of this caliber the  justice it deserves on this review.  The only way you can understand the beauty of this short is by watching it yourselves. Again this as I said at the beginning of the review, this short falls into the category of being beautifully simple.

3/23/12

Tangled Ever After

Man, talk about timing.  After I finish my review for Tangled, Disney Channel airs Tangled Ever After. Now this is the second time I've watched the short and I liked it.  This short was smart in that, while it was a follow up to Tangled about Rapunzel & Eugene's wedding, they weren't the main focus and instead,   Max and Pascal were.  Now watching it on TV and not in 3D like I did when I saw it in theaters in front of Beauty and The Beast does make the 3D elements stand out a bit more but it's still funny and they work well and all of the callbacks to the film such as the frying pan and Eugene's nose never being depicted correctly are a nice touch.

The Plot

It's the big day for Eugene and Rapunzel, they are about to tie the knot.  Everyone is excited, the thugs are there,  for some unexplained reason so are The Stabbington Brothers and Max and Pascal are the ring barriers and this is where the problem starts along with the mayhem as they lose the rings and they go all over town chasing them.   It's a simple plot, Pascal and Max need to get the rings back to the ceremonies. There is one nice segment where they have a dream sequence and the castle blows up because of them losing the rings.   It was really funny but it worked rather well.

Characters

Now  since it seemed to be this way, in the short, I'll be grouping our characters together for both Main & Supporting.

Main Characters

Max  & Pascal both voiced by Frank Welker

Max & Pascal are our main characters and as stated above are the main focus of this short and they are racing all throughout the kingdom trying to get the rings back.  There were a lot of great slapstick moments  such as Max being with a royal frying pan. (That's still funny typing it out) or one of my favorites, Pascal falling into a bowl of soup.

That is pretty funny, right there.   Seeing the two of them work together to get the rings back was a lot of fun. It may not have been anything grand but it was funny and that is all that I need out of this short.

Supporting Characters

Rapunzel & Eugene (Flynn) voiced by Mandy Moore & Zachary Levi

Now even though this short has Tangled in the title, Rapunzel and Eugene (Flynn) aren't the main focus. I mean, sure they are there but really, they are just there to help set up the short because the short opens with narration, the same way Flynn opened the film and how they closed the film. It was a nice touch.  But really, they were just there because they needed to be.  Now I'm not saying this is a bad thing but it's just the way it is.

My Final Thoughts

I'll admit that I had my reservations about this short in the past but thankfully, it turned out to be decent.   It's a fun short and a nice follow up to Tangled.  If you liked the film, I think you'll enjoy Tangled Ever After.  This is a short that I suggest you check out.  Now as stated above, the plot is rather thin but that's okay because the antics work well for this short and is so funny.

My Thoughts On The Epic Mickey 2 Info Relased

YES!!!   Sorry, I don't normally lose my cool over a video game but I loved the first Epic Mickey.

Now I'd admit that I haven't completed the game but this trailer for the sequel has me excited.   First off,   I love the idea that Mickey and Oswald work together. Awesome!

I really love the idea of having these two Disney characters working together and making Oswald a playable character is a step in the right direction in re introducing Oswald to the general public and just maybe, this'll work in getting the older shorts shown.  I don't know how but I love the fact that Oswald is getting more exposure and I love the idea of making him playable.  Also  from the looks of the trailer, it seems like it is a combo of magic and science. Because Mickey has the brush and Oswald.

Now it's also been stated that musical numbers will be incorporated.  I don't know how that is going to work but I have faith in Warren Specter and that it'll also have voice acting.  Now I know that the first one didn't have that I think that could turn out okay because I mean they'll more than likely get Bret Iwan to voice Mickey and even though I don't watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, the little bit I've heard of him there, he makes a decent Mickey and really, his first time voicing Mickey was in one of the Kingdom Hearts games.   I believe it was Birth By Sleep, so I don't see to much trouble there.

Though that does beg the question, should Oswald be voiced?   I mean he has never had a voice before because most of his life, he's been silent.   I don't know, it just seems like it'd be off putting if he was given a voice.   Though I'm happy to return to Wasteland and fight with Mickey and Oswald and according to Warren Specter, there will be new lands and rides to explore. Cool!   It's also been said that an earthquake has caused the look of Wasteland to change.

Now it hasn't been confirmed yet but I'm hoping and pretty sure that the cut scenes which were gorgeous to look at.

Pretty!

Also, if there is one thing that I'm really looking forward to is the soundtrack because I loved the first soundtrack and it is the first and only video game soundtrack I ever bought.    There are so many things to be excited about and I've covered the little bits I'm excited about and let's not forget the biggest thing, it'll be available multiple consoles other than the Wii.     The first game is something that I love and  I mean my parents got me the Collector's Edition for Christmas which came with a really cool DVD with the making of and shorts that were levels in the game along with a very nice figurine.

As I said, I rarely get excited about games but I can't wait to pick this one up. What are your thoughts on this? Tell me in the comments. Peace!

Music Fridays # 47: Splashdance

Hello and welcome back to Music Fridays.  Today, I'm doing something different as I'm starting a look at novelty albums released from Disney as I take a look at Splashdance and there are too many songs on this album that I bump it up to 8. Enjoy.

Happy, Happy Birthday To You

Okay, I admit I love this song.  I mean yeah, it's not my birthday but I should have used this song for that occasion.  Next year but I digress.   It's just so silly and fun, yeah it reminds me somewhat of those annoying Happy Birthday songs you get at restaurants with the silly lyrics but here's the thing unlike those, this one is so much fun that it almost seems wrong to enjoy a song this cheesy. Though of course, the idea of having Mickey Mouse at my birthday party is something that I would've loved as a kid and I'll admit, that would still be rather cool. Even if I'm 23 but  c'mon a party with Mickey Mouse.  If you know me, you know I'd love that.   I think this is one of those songs that can best be summed up by saying "One More Time!"

Digital Duck

Okay, I don't know what's funnier. How dated this song is or the fact that Donald has a somewhat decent singing voice.  This song is just so strange and bizarre, there's no way that it could be from any decade but the '80s.  Of course it has to end with Donald getting angry at his gadgets. Would you expect anything less? I wouldn't!

Chip 'n' Dale's Vacation

Okay, I'm not going to say Disney ripped off Alvin and The Chipmunk bs having Chip 'n' Dale sing because I don't think that was the case at all. Even if I couldn't help but think of that.  Maybe it's just me but these songs keep on getting weirder as I go on.   This one is cute if rather simple like the others and while fun, it doesn't have the staying power of the first two.

 Splashdance

This song is so much fun  and I think out of these first 4, it's the best song.  It's so much fun and you feel like your there with the gang and to think, this song is all about getting wet but I love it. It is so much fun and so silly.   I can't help but to love it.  Who would've thought that a song about getting wet would be so much fun.   Yeah, it's  a bit cheesy but all of these songs are but that is what makes them so much fun.

You Can Always Be Number One

This is a nice song, if a bit simple.  I love the idea behind it, which comes down to your number one so long as you try and tying it into Goofy is a nice touch but I'm not so sure that I'd take sports lessons from Goofy. I've seen the "How To" shorts  but at the same time,  one should not turn their back on Goofy just because he is a goofy albeit a lovable goof.

Gyro Gearloose

It's nice to see one of the less famous characters get a song of their own. Now I'm not sure when  this album came out but if I had to speculate, this song makes me  think that DuckTales was on the air when this album came out. I say that because it doesn't seem as though there'd be any other period to release this song and also DuckTales really brought him into the limelight. Now I may be wrong but again this is just speculation. As for the song, it's nice and I love the melody.   Not as much fun as the songs as some of the other songs and  it does seem  somewhat unbalanced but it's okay.  At best it's forgettable but it's not a bad song by any stretch of the word.

One Little Android

This one is rather cute and unlike all of the other songs I've talked about, this one deals with a new character. I don't know why but this reminds of Three Little Monkeys Jumping On The Bed.  Again, I can't put my finger on why but it just does.   It's cute and a lot of fun and certainly one I'd find myself listening to over and over.

Mickey, She's Got a Crush On You

I know, I know!  I normally don't cover a song more than once and this is this song's third appearance on Music Fridays but I love it so much.  Turning down the chance to talk about this song for a third time would be criminal.   I've already told you guys about the high school setting that I see with this song.  Out of all the Mickey & Minnie songs out there and there is a large number, this is my favorite. It's just so endearing and cute.  There's gotta be an image that could go with this song.

Yeah, I think that one works rather well.    I know I talked about this song not too long ago and normally I would not repeat songs like this so close to each other but darn it, this song has grown on me.

Join me next week as I continue my look at these novelty albums as we...

Classic Shorts Showcase: The Ugly Duckling (1931)

Hello and welcome back to Classic Shorts Showcase. Today and next week, I'll be taking a look at The Ugly Duckling. Now you see, this is a short that was made twice but both versions tend to be rather different. This one while sympathetic, you could still laugh at the actions of the Duckling unlike next week's version, which is rather heartbreaking. I should also note that this short is the first black and white to be featured on Showcase. Don't know about you but I'm surprised it took this long.

The Plot

The plot of this short is rather simple in that it is just a retelling of the classic tale with some minor changes here and there such as having the short taking place on a barn and the duckling being hatched alongside hens and well. it's cute.  The short's plot works well and that is great because the short has to be able express all of this without any dialogue.

Characters

There is really no need to break it down, this time. Let's get into it.

The Ugly Duckling

The Duckling may not be the cutest but he has a sympathetic look to him and I would love it always seemed he looked as though he was looking to be accepted.  He may not be the cutest character but there is a charm about him.   Which I think part of that comes from the fact of the look of the older Disney shorts, which while they had a crude look to them, they're still entertaining to look at.

Mother Hen

Mother Hen in this short was mean spirited and really hated the Duckling. That is until he saved the day and her other babies from going down a waterfall. At the end of the day, she came to accept the Duckling for who he is. Though unlike some other shorts where this has happened, I had a bit of a problem because it felt out of character more than any other short for the main character to be accepted.

My Final Thoughts

This was a decent short and I'd say give if it a watch if only for the sole purpose of checking out some of the older Disney shorts. This was good and I enjoyed it for the most part and it not being color didn't deter my enjoyment. The imagery was great. Join me next week when I take a look at the 1939 remake of The Ugly Duckling.

Dr. Facilier Vs. Ursula

Hello and welcome back to Vs. Today on Vs.,  I'm pitting two villains against each other.  From New Orleans, The Shadow Man, Dr. Facilier and The Sea Witch herself, Ursula.   Hmm, this is the first male/female Vs.  I'm sure some of you wondering why I chose this match up. Well believe it or not,  these two do share certain similarities such as  both tricking a main character from their respective films into signing a contract that hands over something of importance to the main lead to the villain.   As a reminder, here are the categories that I'll use for judging,  Personality,  Desire,  Song,  Death, and finally The Film Factor!  Which as a reminder  is a look at which character worked better in their respective film. Now you may have noticed a new category, that being Death.  I've added this one in for villains and works in the same way the Defining Moment works for the main leads.   A good villain has a good death  and while that should not be remembered for,  if the villain has a great death it feels right for the character.  With all of this out of the way, let's begin.

Personality (Round 1)

Dr. Facilier

Hmm,  how can one describe Facilier?  I've got it, suave.   Seriously,  Facilier is so charming and suave and over the top yet subtle at the same time.  It works so well and I love it.   I think his song, Friends on The Other Side really sums his personality and Keith David's delivery helps to sell the personality of  The Shadow Man, so well.  He is just so much  fun and every time he's  on scree, he steals the scene.

Ursula

Before we get to far into Ursula's personality, there is a fun fact that I want to bring up. The basic design of Ursula was based on famed drag queen and actor from the original Hairspray, Divine.   Now that we got that out of the way, let's take a look at the personality,  Well,  she's over the top too but not in the same way as Facilier.  I think she is more subdued but there are moments of her coming across as a pima donna but again it works for her character and she is fun to watch.   This is such a hard area to judge as I like both of the personalities for these characters but if I had to pick one that was more exciting, I'd have to go with The Shadow Man.  Therefore this round goes to...

Dr. Facilier

Desire (Round 2)

Now let's take a look at these two's desires. What do they want?

Dr. Facilier

As much as I love The Shadow Man, if there is one under developed  part of him in the film is that  what he wants never really seems clear.  Well, no that's not it.  He wants to take over New Orleans and get Big Daddy's money but part of my problem is that with this, I was asking myself "why?"   Why because it just doesn't make sense and also add in the fact that I kind of wish that we would have gotten some interaction with Facilier and Big Daddy, this would have worked better for me.   Because throughout this entire film, we don't see Big Daddy acknowledge Facilier and it comes off as though he doesn't know Facilier exists. It just doesn't seem to work.

Ursula

Now Ursula's desires seem to be  a bit more clear and on a grander scale than Facilier's.   She wants to take over Altantica and rule an entire kingdom.  That's a grand scale all right and she goes about it in a better way by using Ariel who is the daughter of the king and by using Triton's daughter,  you put more on the line in my opinion.  Also her plan to get her desire seems more clear and straight and narrow. Also she came closer and even got Triton to hand over the triton and the crown.  Therefore this round goes to...

Ursula

Song (Round 3)

Now to my favorite part, the song.

Friends On The Other Side (Dr. Facilier)

Man, I love this song. This is how you do a good villain song. This will go down as one of the most remembered Disney villain songs if it has not already.  It's fun, and it helps to get a feel of the character and another thing I didn't pick up on until listening to the song for the third or fourth  time is all of the subtle foreshadowing in the song.   I mean when Facilier is talking about Green, he's referring to his plan of turning Naveen into a frog. That is such a nice touch.

Poor Unfortunate Souls (Ursula)

Man, I love this song and I love how direct Ursula is. She doesn't hide behind any layers and just gets to the point of what she wants. It is a great song, don't get me wrong and one of my favorite villain songs because it works so well but I think  I find myself listening to Friends On The Other Side more. It should be no surprise who wins this round but I have to give credit to both of these songs in that they both nice set up for these characters. As I said though this round goes too..

Dr. Facilier

Death (Round 4)

Which villain had the better death scene? Let's find out.

Dr. Facilier

Geese,  is this one creepy moment.  Everything from the reprise of Friends On The Other Side to seeing the voo doo dolls coming out of the grounds like zombies and seeing Facilier pulled into essentially Hell is creepy as heck and makes for a great death scene and added the touch of seeing his frightened face on a tombstone is a nice touch. Now I don't know if it's because of New Orleans being the setting for this film but I get a very Haunted Mansion esque vibe with this death scene and it works well.

Ursula

Yeah,  this one. Not so much!   The only word that could come to my mind when re watching this scene is lame.  Because for a villain like Ursula to be taken out like that feels like she is being sent out on a wimper.  For a great villain, her death scene doesn't deliver.   Throughout all of the film most of her scenes make her feel like she is on a high note and don't get me wrong seeing her that big is a high note but having her taken out but having Eric drive the ship into her stomach is just silly.   With that it should be no surprise who wins this round.  This round goes too...

Dr. Facilier

The Film Factor (The Final Round)

Here we are, The Film Factor, the final round.   Which character worked better in their respective film, let's find out.

Dr. Facilier

Oh, Facilier.   You are such a great villain and work so well.  Your charm and suaveness help to make you  such a memorable character and quite the scene stealer.  This character was so much fun and every time he was on screen, I paid attention to him because he was the best character in all of his scenes. Not a moment goes by with him, where I'm bored and that makes for a great character.

Ursula

Ursula, while still a good character and great villain doesn't have the same screen presence as The Shadow Man.   She's really good and certainly memorable but I don't feel that she commands the same screen presence as Facilier.   Don't get me wrong, she delivers in every scene but when it comes down to it, I think this round had to go to..

Dr. Facilier

The End Result

So in our first ever male/female Vs.,   Dr. Facilier wins by a score 4 - 1.  He had the better personality, better song,  better death and he worked better in his film.  The only thing is his desire wasn't very clear but still, he's a great villain and while she didn't win, I still like Ursula but in this Vs., it went to Facilier.
