The 2012 Summer Olympics are upon us and if the track and field team want any shot. I suggest they not choose Goofy for their team after watching this short. Yes, Goofy of all people from Disney competed in the Olympics and only in the way that Goofy could.
The Plot
It's strange because even though short is presented as a How To short, it doesn't feel like one. Yes, it does show the different events but they go into great detail about the events. Instead, there is a brief description and then it shows Goofy attempting them. Though I do love how this short starts out in Mt. Olympus and shows Goofy carrying the torch through different parts of the world and when he gets to the arena in what I assume was modern times for this short, the torch goes out. Also at first I thought it wad the video I was watch but at one point, when Goofy is running through China, the screen goes upside down but I looked again and it's actually the short. I really loved that joke. It was great.
See if the Olympics had people like this carry the torch, I'd pay more attention.
Narration
Narrator - John McLeish
The narration in this short was just okay. It wasn't very memorable but it did help in advancing the story. I do admit that I did get a chuckle from the narrator at one point when we went off a tangent and started reciting a poem while Goofy was stuck on his pole from the pole vault. Other then that, the narration was just okay.
Character
Goofy voiced by George Johnson
Goofy in this short like a lot of How To shorts felt less like a character and more like an aid to show how these different events are presented in the Summer Olympics. Some were funnier then others. The sprint was probably the least funniest while in my personal opinion the pole vault had to be the best one.
There is just something about this that I find rather humorous. The hammer event was also pretty funny.
The hammer was the last event and Goofy's well being Goofy caused him to crash into the trophies and that was a fitting way to close out the short.
Honestly, the highlights of this short as with any Goofy short was watching Goofy attempt the different sporting events.
My Final Thoughts
This is a fun short. Not a memorable Goofy short but it's fun to watch around this time of year with the Olympics coming up and while I'm not a big sports person, I do like to watch the Olympics and this short just made me realize that I'd love to see Disney do a special with their characters in the vein of Battle of The Network Stars. Who's with me? That would be awesome, right? As for this short itself, I'd say give it a watch as it's not bad but you'll probably forget about it afterwards.
