Okay, go watch Once Upon A Time before you read this list. Do It! Okay, back. Good, for those of you that didn't watch Once Upon A Time, this is a new show on ABC that uses the idea of fairy tale characters and they are brought to our world and during season 1, they forgot their past lives until the finale of season 1 and now the big fear of season 2 is that if they leave Storybrooke, where they were sent, they will forget their old fairy tale lives forever. Now with this show being on ABC and also using fairy tale characters there are a lot of Disney references and while that was the main draw for me intitnally, I've come to love the show just for the stories. Seriously, watch this show! Anyways, today I'll be counting down my Top 6 favorite Disney references and I'll be using the Once Upon A Time Wiki as this show can be a bit confusing if you don't have much background on the show.
6. Minnie Plush In Snow's Nursery - Pilot
Okay, I was surprised that I didn't pick up on when I first watched the pilot. The nursery that were looking at is the nursery of Emma Swan, who besides being the main character and you saw the back of her in the the first image, I used. She's also the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. Who because of the curse that set in motion the events of season 1 was sent to our world, not only to protect her but to also try and break the curse. They knew she'd return when she was 28. (Man, this is a confusing show). Anyways onto the reference, I like seeing Minnie but I do have to admit that I do take a bit of an issue with Minnie appearing and this may seem absurd but hear me out, while I like the nod, it doesn't make sense as Minnie is something from our world and the nursery is in Fairy Tale Land and this is from before they came to our world and in Fairy Tale Land, there are no televisions, so how do they know about Minnie Mouse because without having seen Minnie in a short or something, I doubt the fairy tale land characters would know who Minnie Mouse is. It just seems odd for the show to include Minnie but still, nice nod but perhaps they should've had this one in our world and not in Fairy Tale Land.
5. Pongo - Pilot
Even though the show mostly focuses on fairy tale characters and there are other Disney references. This is one right here as you see the town's psychologist, Archie Hopper, who is actually Jiminy Cricket (Weird but just go with it) owns a pet dalmatian and his name happens to be named Pongo. Now I'm listing Pilot as that was when Pongo made his first appearance and also even though Archie is actually Jiminy Cricket, I do not believe Pongo to be the same Pongo from 101 Dalmatians as again, the big focus of the show for the most part until their recent episode, The Doctor was about fairy tale characters. I think it's nothing more then a nod to the character. Still, this was a nice nod to 101 Dalmatians and the character of Pongo. Though, I wouldn't expect Cruella to appear as it's more fantastical on this show.
4. You Might Survive - Lady of The Lake
I know what I said about fairy tale characters but season 2 introduced Mulan and I have to admit that bugged me a bit because Mulan is NOT a fictional character. Nonetheless in the episode, Lady of The Lake tells Emma and Mary Margaret (who's Snow's Storybrooke counterpart) they might survive as they had just come to Fairy Tale Land in the previous episode and they came to where the hostages who survived the curse were. She uttered the line, You might survive. Which is a lyric from the song, I'll Make a Man Out of You from Disney's Mulan. I found that to be a nice touch and it was kind of funny hearing Mulan say it and I have to be honest, again with this reference, if you weren't looking for it, you wouldn't pick up on it.
3. It's Off to Work we Go -We Are Both

3. It's Off to Work we Go -We Are Both
This entry is pretty much the same type of f reference as what # 4 was but I placed it higher because it got a bigger kick out of me. Now in the previous episode, the dwarfs who are still in our world were mining for Pixie Dust as the people of Storybrooke believe that can help fight the curse. At the end of the of the episode, Leroy, who is Grumpy's Storybrooke counterpart says to the other dwarfs, it's off to work we go. Which also leads me to believe that this Grumpy is the leader of the dwarfs. Perhaps I'm wrong on this one but it certainly seems this way with him saying that line. I also must admit to their being a pretty big amount of excitement from me when I heard that line.
2. Rumpel's Chipped Cup - Skin Deep
Okay, this one is going to need a bit more explaining for you see in this show, Rumpelstiltskin is also The Beast from Beauty and The Beast and he is one the one that cut off Hook's hand. So with him being the Beast that means his love interest is Belle and it clears that they both care for each other. Now Belle made her first appearance in the episode Skin Deep, I'll admit I have not seen that episode yet as I've only seen certain episodes of season 1 but I've seen all of the episodes for season 2 that have aired thus far and this chipped cup does make a reappearance in season 2, in Storybrooke when Mr. Gold (Rumpel's counterpart) tells Belle that it's his favorite item because it reminds him of her. Knowing all of this, it's easy to figure out that this cup is a reference to the character Chip and I have to say I think, it's one of my favorites because of the sentimental value this cup has and I just find it to be an adorable way to work in Chip without it seeming silly.
1. Room # 2 in Granny's Bed & Breakfast - True North
What's so big a about a room number and why would I place it so high up. Well, you see in this episode, the Storybrooke counterpart of Pinocchio, August Booth makes his first appearance and he at the beginning asks Emma for a place to stay and she suggests, he stay at Granny's Bed & Breakfast. His room number is 2. Now for those that may not know Pinocchio was the second animated feature from Walt Disney. Even though, that may not be my favorite film, I love the nod of having Pinocchio/August stay in the room # 2. Now unlike some of the other references on here, it's never spoken. There is just a quick glance and you see the number 2. I find this to be the best reference because it's clear from all the others on this list that people behind this show used Disney as an influence and I don't know why but having an homage for the canon is pretty cool in my book. I also really like how quiet this nod is. I think it was around the time that I saw that, I fell in love with this show.
There you have it , my Top 6 Disney References on Once Upon A Time. A great show that I can't suggest enough. Sure, I only went over Disney references today but there's a lot of heart and great characters as well. Now if only, they'd work in a reference to Dumbo and bring in Rapunzel, I'd be happy. Peace!
