Top 6 Greatest Things about Sofia The First

Hello & welcome back to A Look at Disney.   If you'll recall,  my post from last year, where I counted down the Top 6 Things That Surprised Me in how Good they were, Sofia The First came in at # 1 and as I said in my Q & A video, I've seen pretty much every episode and have enjoyed them greatly. Today, I have decided to countdown what I consider to be the Top 6 Greatest Things about this show. What brought this on? Well today, Behind The Voice Actors released their nominees for their Behind The Voice Actor Awards and Sofia The First: Once Upon A Princess was up for Best Animated special, it got my vote and Ariel Winter, the voice of Sofia was up for Best Young Female Voice Actress in a Children's Television series  Now this was tough to choose as Claire Corlett, the voice of Sweetie Belle from MLP was also up for nomination. Sorry Bronies, this was tough but I had to give my vote to Ariel Winter as she is just so great as Sofia.   Now if it had been Madeleine Peters, the voice of Scootaloo, she would've gotten my vote but everywhere else where MLP was nominated,  they got my vote.   I really think that Jess Harnell should've been nominated for his work as Cedric as he is one of the best things about this show.     So with that out of the way, let's  begin.

6.   Clover

All of the side characters in this show are pretty good as they stand out on their own and are really entertaining but Clover voiced by Whose Line alum,  Wayne Brady is perhaps the best side character. Clover is perhaps just a simple bunny but he is so funny in how silly, he is and how he really feels like Wayne Brady just as a bunny.  And seeing him get caught up in some of the situations that he and Sofia get mixed up in such as in the episode, The Shy Princess where Sofia has to work with Princess Vivian who is as the title is very shy and she has a pet dragon, who is over the top and at first Clover can't stand the dragon and the interaction between Clover and the dragon is just really funny.  Here's the dragon,   her name is Crackle and while she's no Spike, she is certainly a fun little ball of energy.

5.  Ariel Winter As Sofia

I am convinced that Ariel Winter is going to be one of the next great voice actresses.  The life she brings into Sofia with her voice easily makes Sofia one of the cutest and most realistic characters on children's TV show that I've seen in a real time as I feel she makes Sofia feel like a real  be.   Kind of easy, when your still pretty young yourself I guess.

4.    Jess Harnell as Cedric

Okay honestly,  Jess Harnell as Cedric is just so hilarious  because again, the way he plays the character is just so great as he is so over the top and clumsy and you really get the feel that Harnell is having a blast playing this character. Easily making him the stand out character of the series, he just needs to appear in more episodes.  Because Harnell really sells the  bumbling and goofy villain quite well that it is always a pleasure when Cedric is on screen.

For # 3,   I go back to the premiere film and one song in particular.   Now this show in my opinion has had some decent music but this one has to be my favorite.  Why is that?   Because,  it goes against the whole notion of  "Oh My Gosh, being a princess is the greatest thing ever!"   No, instead we hear Sofia is scared that she'll mess up and that she'll mess up.  She doesn't think what it has to take to be a princess but  as the show has progressed,  she is not only learning that she can make it as a princess and still be true to herself.  I love that and also  the movie as I said in my review really didn't have an "I Want" type song as that wouldn't have fit what the story was going for and instead had this charming little number, where we got to see how the idea of being a princess stressed poor Sofia out.

2.    The Amulet of Avalor

The Amulet of Avalor has to be one of the coolest things, I've ever seen on a kid's show. The Amulet grants the wearer in this case Sofia, magic powers for each good deed that they perform.  Sadly, the show has only shown one in action because after reuniting a baby bird with it's mother,  Sofia was granted the ability to talk to animals.  And it also gives Sofia a connection to all of the Disney Princesses that'll come to her in time of need such as in the movie, Cinderella came to help her in the movie and understand how her stepsister Amber was feeling. And now this brings me to my # 1.

1.   The Show Doesn't Rely On The Princesses

Now it has been confirmed that a good majority of the princesses from Snow up to Rapunzel may make an appearance on the show but guess what,  the only princess to appear as of right now is Cinderella. Now this is a good thing because the show is letting the characters be set up and it is also showing that Sofia can't always rely on the princesses to help her solve her problems and she has to figure out how to solve them for herself. That is great but I'd be lying if I didn't say, I really want to see how they handle the princesses on the show. Rumor is, Jasmine is the next princess that is going to make an appearance on the show, that should be fun and I have enough faith in the show, they won't let Jasmine overshadow the story or Sofia.

There you have it, the Top 6 Greatest Things about Sofia The First.   This is easily in my opinion of the best Disney cartoons to come out in a long time.  It very much feels like something that would've come out in the '90s.  Is it weird that I did a Top 6 for a cartoon aimed at preschool girls.  Uh,   have you seen my other series about My Little Pony.     But  seriously, this is a great show and just like MLP  it shows that shows aimed at young girls can be good and have decent stories. And while this one is certainly a bit more girly, then MLP, it is still very good.
