Hello & welcome back to A Look at Disney. Once we again, we delve into the Mickey Mouse (2013) series of shorts to take a look at Tokyo Go. As always, here is a link to the short on Disney.com. This is easily my favorite short that aired from the 2013 thus far. This short is just a lot of fun.
The Plot
The plot is pretty simple, Mickey buys a ticket for the blue bullet train but is literally shoved onto the red and now it's a race to get on the right train, so that Mickey could get to his job. Speaking as someone who lived in Japan, that really does happen. They try to shove as many people onto one train as possible and being a kindergartner and not liking big crowds made that rather uncomfortable. Anyways back to the short, it was so much fun watching Mickey trying to get to the right train. I mean at one point while watching this, I literally said, "Where's my controller?" because of how much the action in this short felt like a video game and guess what, the scene after I said, was this...
That was so awesome. But what really made this short work for me is the ending because it really makes Mickey's efforts so much more understandable as apparently he runs one of those kiddie trains for kids to ride and I took that as Mickey didn't want to disappoint the kids. Also , the train that he runs is Casey Jr. from my favoritest film, Dumbo. Yay, a Dumbo reference and there is also a Walt cameo as the famous picture of Walt Disney in the Disneyland train appears in this short as well.
That is so awesome!!!
Character
Mickey Mouse
Mickey was a lot of fun in this short and yeah, it was watching him get from point A to point B again but there were a lot of fun obstacles this time such as a sumo wrestler. I think this was the most entertaining that Mickey has been in any of the new shorts.
My Final Thoughts
I LOVED LOVED LOVED this short. It was just so much fun and that's all I ask for a Mickey short to be a lot of fun and Mickey felt like Mickey in this short. I cannot suggest this short enough. I hope you guys take the time to check this one out.
