Halloween Music Fridays # 108: Songs About The Bad Guy

Hello & welcome back to our Halloween celebration.   Today, we are doing something different.  We are still looking at villains songs, yes but rather songs about the bad guy.  Not necessarily ones sung by the bad guy.  Let's start with one of the earliest examples.

Who's Afraid of The Big Bad Wolf

This song does a good job of setting up our protagonists in how Fifer and Fiddler are lazy while Practical, bless his heart is a hard worker.  And with this song, we get the feeling that our protagonists do not take the Wolf as a serious threat, even though through six different shorts, he tried to eat them.

Cruella De Vil

This is perhaps the most famous type of this song.  As this is by all means, a classic villain song and it perfectly captures Cruella as the cruel and cold-hearted woman that she is.  She is not a nice woman at all.   And this song is in a way, Roger's take that to Cruella because she is just cruel.

Phony King of England

If Cruella De Vil is a take that,  this is that times 10 because as you can hear Prince John's subjects have no respect for him as their ruler.  They got together to just endlessly mock him and I know I've said this before but with the stupid shutdown,  the lyric aptly applies to what is going on it D.C.  Especially the line about "he doesn't want to play".

Headless Horseman

Now yes, Brom is the secondary antagonist of this song but  this still counts and this one is clever because unlike the others, where it was people mocking the villain, here our character singing is building up The Headless Horseman as someone to be scared of.  Because  Brom is trying his hardest to scare Ichabod because he knows that Ichabod is a coward and it works rather well.  Just watch the facial expressions on Ichabod as this song goes on.

There you have it,  my look at 4 songs about the bad guy but not sung by them.  I hope that you've enjoyed this Music Fridays. Peace!
